Been to Burd's Fishing a few times now. And, I enjoy myself every time. This past time, I learned to finally put that worm on a hook. Did a Groupon to save a little bit of money. It is a bit pricey to walk in the "door" for two. Then the fish on top of the purchase. But, it's fun to do with family. It's fun to reel in "the big one". My son brought in his first fish and that was awesome to me. The staff helped with the taking of the fish off the hook. HELPFUL to me! They cleaned the fish (basics) and removed its head. But, again, HELPFUL to me. It was fun. It was clean, organized and just an all round good time.

Very nice Farm, with many picnic tables, nice kids all-over the place to help you in each move. Now that said, their rods are terrible (so I would recommend bringing your own), they have two ponds, one for trouts in the 1lb range, and then another pond which almost all people was fishing from was 2lb+, I personally caught two that weighed 6 lbs, I have a seen a guys with at least 10lb fish, it too me couple of hours to land the two fish, so I had my fun, they clean it for you (only guts and head, no scaling and no filleting), I coocked one fish, although Trout is not my favourite, but I did like this one very much, it was really tastey.I went their though an offer from Groupon, so I took my family to a nice outing and I had fish lunch for only $42, not bad at all.

So I've been bugging the boyfriend to take me here ever since I spotted some signs for this place on the 401 (last fall)...So I started bringing it up as soon as the weather warmed up here (basically five minutes ago compared to other, shorter winters, but I digress). I spotted their offer on Groupon (go to this link, it's still on! https://www.groupon.com/biz/markham/burds-family-fishing-1 ) so best boyfriend ever scooped it up and we went this morning. Arrived there first thing and were assisted by an amazing young man named James. He explained everything to us (you have to keep everything you catch, where to find the larger fish (higher pond) etc etc), how much they cost ($10 lb but we had one free w our Groupon, or you can pay a bit more and get more fish w the Groupon) and they clean and gut them for free for you (thank God) and he provided us with bait. There are tons of fishing rods to choose from. A few lovely shady treed spots and lots of grass and green space and running water, so the trout look healthy and strong, water clear, no fishy smell anywhere, well-maintained all around. Nice place to bring a picnic. Since I don't touch the bait (worms) or fish, I am more than happy to hold the rod and catch the fish (yep, not real fishing but I'm okay with that - once again, shout out to awesome boyfriend). Some of the others that were there already said that it takes a few seconds for the fish to bite, so to practice casting I just did some without bait first. Caught a 3 lb and a 1.6 lb (apparently the smaller ones taste better - will test that at dinner tonight - going to grill them on the barbeque, in foil w butter and lemon and dill - yeah baby!). Lovely, healthy, gorgeous rainbow trout. Of course as soon as my first fish bit, James was there (he was the only person working when we arrived and I have no idea how he managed to do such a wonderful job and be everywhere at once - I'd hire him to do anything, given his customer service skills, dedication, attention to detail, professionalism and sense of humour) I do have to admit that upon our arrival, we saw two fish waiting to be cleaned, still alive and I felt like a horrible person because I wasn't just going to catch and release. (I don't have these kinds of reservations with lobster at all. Ever. Go figure). That was the hardest part for me, but hey, if I'm going to a fishing pond to catch fish, what do I expect? So as soon as the fish bit, James was there with pliers and was able to unhook the fish quickly, expertly and cleanly and put it in the holding tanks (with clean, fresh running water in each) until we were done. So the 3 lb was free (because 1 fish is included in our Groupon) and the second was $16, not cheap, but have you priced fresh fish in the market lately? I still think it's worth it. Everyone fishing was friendly, nice for families and couples. Saw some outhouses and they sell water and cold drinks and some candies at the counter. Go there if you're not Buddhist and tip James well. It's a fun outing and satisfying. Be sure to tip James, he deserves it (hell, I'd pay someone to not have to clean or gut the fish myself, and he does it for free)!

Fun for all ages!!Great stocked pond of trout. A little expensive ($10pp to get in if you need a fishing rod) and $10 per pound for fish, but fun to go for a couple of hours and then BBQ your fresh fish. Very good. Staff was helpful. They will clean the fish for you.Nice little outing for a couple of hours - beats grocery shopping!
