My wife and I did this tour on our first visit to PR two years ago. We had such a great experience, we knew that we would do it again when we returned to PR. This time around was an even better experience than the first. To be able to take a group of tourists with widely varying levels of diving experience (most non-existant) and get them to a point where they can swim freely underwater in a single session is a commendable feat in itself. Adam and his crew have the art form down.I tell my friends "It is like floating in the middle of an aquarium." -- an experience unlike any other. If you are visiting Puerto Rico, put this on your to do list.
this was a great afternoon trip. my husband and i had a wonderful time. adam and his crew are great people. i felt very safe. it was such a fun time. a great happy medium from snorkling and scuba diving. such a great time and a great experiance. i highly recomend it.
Adam, the captain, was a complete jerk and very unprofessional. Larry was also on this trip, but for the dive, not to work. Larry was rude and condescending to Larry both in front of him and not in front of him. I could never work for Adam. The Rio Mar resort was supposed to drop off about a group of people to take our tour. They were more than 30 minutes late. Adam called the Rio Mar front desk to chew them out in front of us -very unprofessional and uncomfortable for us. Eventually, we left without this group. Not sure what ever happened to them. He mentioned still charging the guests for the excursion. He used profanity throughout the trip. He rushed through the explanation of how to hooka dive and didn't seem to take our safety seriously. My husband's mask was leaking water the entire time and Adam did nothing about it- didn't offer a different mask, but later mentioned he saw the water in the mask. My mask kept fogging up. Defogger would have been helpful. Overall, this was not a pleasant excursion. You could see the same kind of reefs and fish by taking a snorkeling/kayak excursion. Chances are, the tour guide would be much more pleasant.
this was by far the best adventure I have ever had. I hope to do it again someday. The captain was wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgeable
At first, I was somewhat apprehensive about the drive to the marina and the dive. Adam, the manager, advised me that not only would I experience what other people have not, but it would be an event that I could treasure for years to come. So, my cousin and I traveled out to the marina (short drive) and took a short boat tour to the island. We saw sea turtles and all types of wild/sea life. Once we arrived we were briefed on what we would see and what to expect. After the briefing, he gradually helped us acclimate to the water and thereafter it was nothing more than coral reef, fish of all types, and an experience in a new world that to some would be otherwise non-existent!
My husband, nine-year-old daughter and I went hookah-diving with Adam and Wes on 2/1 and had a great time. It will be one of our most memorable experiences from our PR vacation. Both Adam and Wes were very safety conscious, professional and knowledgable when it came to the diving. Adam did a good job putting my daughter at ease and making her laugh. He very cleverly pegged me as the most nervous one in our family, so got me in the water first - so I couldn't fret about my daughter and before I could change my mind. Wes was our family's diving guide and he was fabulous. He paced the dive just right for all three of us (none of us had snuba'd before, but we all can swim). My daughter came away with a renewed sense of confidence and pride at what she had done. My husband and I felt the same way. While it may be true that Adam is a bit of an acquired taste, and I sure wouldn't want to work for him, that didn't affect our core experience.
My husband & I went "hooka" diving with Adam on 2/1. I really appreciate how Adam offered us a good experience & took care of me. He noticed on the form I completed that I had some medical issues, so he asked his assistant, Wes, to stay with me the whole time. Wes held my hand, made sure I was breathing correctly & led to some beautiful places. I really enjoyed it & felt safe. I have always had trouble snorkeling, so this was a fabulous way to see the coral reef & fish, without scuba equipment.
My husband and I are non-swimmers so we always missed out on water activities. When we read tripadvisor reviews on snuba, we were thrilled that we could perhaps do this despite not knowing to swim. We missed our snuba tour due to some ferry cancellation as we were headed back to luquillo from vieques. Instead of shrugging us off, Adam (the owner) was so gracious that he actually gave a separate tour just for us! Of course, it was a toned down version of the tour in the sense, we didn't go on a boat to a spot where the reefs could be found but nevertheless, he took the trouble to bring all the necessary equipment, and gave us about 45 minutes to an hour doing snuba. I opted out of it as I was not well but my husband totally enjoyed it. Adam was willing to give us the tour for free (for real) but we felt bad that he had to go to all this trouble just to give us the experience. Finally he charged us just $20- that included the training, the gear and equipment. He took pictures under water as well- we haven't got it yet but he promised that he will send it after he develops the films. We were going to do the regular snuba tour the next day but our packed schedule didn't allow us much time to do it. We will definitely do it the next time we are at PR and we highly recommend this tour to all! It is fun and a must do thing if you are at Luquillo. A special thanks to Adam for going out of the way and making this a memorable trip for us.
My wife and my two kids all had an awsome time on our hooka diveing experience, having sheduled the activity months in advance it turned out to be everything wecould have hoped for. Thats all my kids have been talking about since. My kids took pictures with under water cameas. Our refrigerator is covered with the memories of our family adventure. To bad theres no hooka diveing in New Jersey. We went out to the island icacos? it was absolutly beautiful on top of the water and below. The water was crystal clear absolutly amazing. Adam and the crew of the black dog gave us an awsome experiece me and my family will never forget. Thanks agin
I have mixed reviews regarding this trip..while on one hand thanks to the assistance of the diver Ray my family and I were able to somewhat enjoy the day however, the captain when told to change a tank we were using apparently did not do so and I ran out of air on the bottom of the ocean and came up in a panic worrying my daughter would be going through the same. My husband and son had an enjoyable experience thanks to Ray. I was very angry with how the captain yelled at his employee "that it wasnt his job to change the tanks" therefore it was apparent that "our" safety was not his job either. Adam needs to understand the seriousness of what this could have been instead of being unprofessional and yelling at his employee in the water who was helping the rest of us. He was not the slightest bit concerned about us at all or what had happened. The diver was the only one who seemed to have any care for myself and family knowing how upset I was and the urgency in my voice gave him the indication that he needed to check their air supply. I was completely disenchanted with Adam and his behavior throughout this tour. I expected so much more but it seems he runs a business to chase women and has the least concern for the "others" who are there for the experience jeopardizing the safety of us and while I can only speak for myself - it ruined my day worrying over the safety of my own family and only got through it because of the efforts of his diver who genuinely went out of his way to make the tour enjoyable in the end. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this tour to anyone simply because it was ran as an unethical business.
We visited with four teenagers--two 17-year-old girls and two 15-year-old boys. We spent a week in Puerto Rico, and Water City was hands-down the high point of our vacation! Adam went above and beyond to accommodate us. We'd scheduled our dive on a Wednesday; however, the weather was bad, so Adam called back and rescheduled us--twice--because he was concerned first and foremost with the safety and quality of the dive. Adam, Ray and Wes were knowledgeable and friendly. They explained everything and put everyone at ease, which was important since it was our first dive and the kids were a little nervous. Our daughter, who had previously injured her ankle, was unable to use flippers. Rather than having her sit out the dive, Adam dove tandem with her so that she wouldn't lose out on the experience. She saw a sea turtle, coral, and beautiful fish! Teens are a tough audience, but ours have been raving about their "snuba" experience ever since! This activity was a blast, and Adam, Ray and Wes were great! I would highly recommend Water City to anyone of any age. Thanks, guys, for a great experience!
We had a great time with the diving experience. It was really easy to learn and we were in the water exploring the coral in minutes. We were looking to scuba, but the expense and time investment was too much, if you aren't already scuba certified, this is the best way to explore underwater. Adam and Ray were experienced and entertaining guides that made the entire experience one to remember. Seeing all the coral and swimming with the schools of fish was exactly what I wanted and it couldn't be easier. I'd recommend this trip to anyone. A short drive from San Juan this excursion should be available to all visiting PR. Well worth it.
The whole snuba diving experience was great! Adam and his team were really sweet to us and made the whole experience really fun! My husband and I have never snorkeled before so we were a little nervous about getting into the open ocean. Adam let us snorkel for a while till we got used to it and then we dove off to the bottom of the ocean! That was a fantastic experience! The ocean bed was beautiful...white sand and nice reefs and it was so so quiet underneath! Our diver guide showed us a few reefs and let us swim around a little bit..it was so awesome to be standing on the ocean bed. Adam and his team made us feel very comfortable and didn't let us dive until we were confident enough to do so. The whole experience was great fun especially since we have never ever been in the open ocean before. Totally worth all the time and the money!
I just got back today from my trip to Puerto Rico. I really wish my trip had been longer. I did 4 guided tours and one on my own, and this by far, was my favorite. Adam is funny, fantastic and muy caliente. I have read some of the other reviews and my god, what bumps on a log. I couldn't disagree more with those. Adam is very knowledgable, and fantastic. Tasked with taking the completely inexperienced to the overly confident and gifting them with an intoxicating underwater adventure, he is a total pro. If you are super sensitive or just a plain old grump don't take this tour (actually, take it, it is unforgettable, but realize that your bad time is probably your own fault) but if you are ready for some fun in the sun with a side of wit and teasing, then this is definately for you.Raves and raves and raves from me. I am at a complete loss at how to describe how worth it this trip was. All I can say is that I would (and am) planning a second trip to Puerto Rico just to have this experience again. I felt completely at ease. Sammy was the other diver on our tour, except he didn't dive. He stayed on the boat. Also, very amicable and very funny. I couldn't have been more happy, and I really can't say it enough. On the day that I decided to take the tour there wasn't a morning tour. But since I had an afternoon tour already planned I needed to go in the AM. The woman (I don't remember her name but it was probably Michelle) that set our reservation put together a trip in a day and made the whole thing possible, so super big kudos to her. Anyway, I really hope that all you travelers reading this take this tour. Happy Travels.Carpe Diem
What a fabulous experience! It is an easy, family friendly adventure. First you head out to one of the small islands of Fajardo. We took the morning trip and we were the only boat out there at the time. Wonderful! Adam is a character and takes the time to make you feel comfortable and capable. It is remarkably easy. Lovely coral and colorful fish abound. After the snuba experience there was some time for snorkeling too as the snuba gear is put away. It was worth every penny and we would do it again!
