Albrook Mall opened in 2003, has 869 stores, and spans 4.1 million-square-feet. It is the 14th largest shopping mall in the world and the largest in the Americas! We shopped here on our last day in Panamá City. It was super convenient to get to via the Metro de Panamá! It costs $1.00 each way on the Metro from the city center (we boarded at the Iglesia del Carmen Station). The Metro takes you directly into the Albrook Station which is connected to the Gran Terminal Nacional de Transporte. Walk to the terminal, go to the second floor, cross the bridge, and you are in the mall....super easy! The mall was very busy (we were told it was pay day). At first glance, not many of the stores looked familiar. There is a newer section (lots of white) with common stores found in the United States. Make sure you pay attention to the section you are in (via an animal and a letter [i.e. T Tiger] section). This will help you not to get lost. Also note some of the restrooms cost to enter (the one in the food court and the ones in the main terminal). The restroom in the newer section of the mall (lots of white) was free.We were only there for two hours which was fine for us. We did not plan to do lots of shopping. I imagine you can spend an entire day here though. Overall it was a nice visit. We enjoyed taking the Metro there and experiencing the largest mall in the Americas!
First order of business when landing in Panama is to get a cheap cell phone and local number. MovieStar is the brand suggested to us for a full month of cross country travel. In the Mall we got hooked up. But the staff saved time, money and waste by swapping out a "sim" card for a couple of bucks. Why didn't they tell us of this at home??? Piece of Cake!
It's a place for famous brands and low priced items. Electronics, toiletries, clothing, shoes, entertaiment, food, jewelry and spend a good time window shopping.
Albrook is not a destination for fine products or souvenirs shopping, but if you feel like spending an afternoon to the mall, it is a huge place and many stores offer very good prices on basic clothing. Also, if you forgot to pack essentials, it is your go to place. Stop by the Super 99 (kind of a Wal-Mart) for snacks or anything you might need. For clothing, well you have the entire mall!
A mall so big that it is difficult to see it all and there are NO MAPS and only 2 mall directories. They have every imaginative store in North and Central America. If you are from North America and size 12 or higher the picking will be slim for clothing. There are both low end and high end stores. The mall is getting bigger, not taller but longer = you will be walking miles. They also have a bowling alley, movie theater and casino. The two food courts had the standard fast food outlets, we found only TGIF fridays as a full service restaurant - there maybe more. Also, to note the end of the Subway and the bus terminal is attached to the mall.
Large mall with a quite a few stores and a large food court. If you need a place to just go and shop, this would be the place. A lot of locals shop here so it must be ok.
Albrook Mall has hundreds of stores of every type but was a little too big for my taste. If you have a whole day to spend at the mall it is fine, but if you only have a couple of hours you spend more time walking than anything. The mall is not very new, and has many popular stores but not really "pretty". It is cheaper that other malls, though, which can be nicer, I personally liked Multiplaza a lot, very nice upscale mall.
With the new stores opened, you must be ready to walk a lot. The new part is really nice and have some fancy shops. There are still a lot of stores to be opened but if you are looking for a good place to go shopping, this is a good choice. Prices are not bad at all compared to the USA.
We went to the mall today because we completed everything on our bucket list for Panama. This place is big and some stores have several locations within the mall. Maps: try to get a map it will be very helpful to know where you are. That being said, we asked at three information desks for a map and no maps were available. We did see other people reference a map, so I know they were available someplace. The automatic computer screen map is only helpful if you know spanish. There are lots of steps, escalators and options to change floors with no problem. Food: The food courts offer everything from fast food to fast casual. From sweets to sandwiches to full grilled meals. There are several courts to choose from.Bathrooms: there are free bathrooms at the mall. We found several free bathrooms. We also found two sets of bathrooms that charged $.25 with a turnstyle to enter. Maybe a local can tell us when the charge. The new end has more expensive stores and is decorated all in white. White walls and white tiles. This end seems less populated with people. As you go through the mall, you will notice a gradual change in decorations and the increase in locals.
This is an enormous mall with many familiar stores for Americans (GAP, Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole. The map of stores in divided up by colored sections. There are several food courts as well as large restaurants such as Fridays and Hooters.
Went to mall several times, mostly for forgotten items. Some great store, L'Occitane,Hermes. Not much that you can't find. It was next to our hotel.
I have been in several malls, but never on something like this! The Mall got an entry from a bus Terminal and Metro, awesome idea. Quick tips:- Wear very comfy shoes. Is a MUST!- The Mall provides Taxi services and depending on how many people and distance they charge, always always ask the Mall security guard for the Mall Taxi services to be on the safe side.- Remember the animal or entry you got in, it can get confusing.- It is so big that stores are repeated within the Mall- If u go shopping alone, take a big backpack so u can walk around with no issues with ur shopping bags.Always ask around where u are because I saw only one time an interactive map of the Mall.
The Albrook Mall is one of the biggest malls in Central and South America with over 300 stores. The mall is like being in the USA malls. It offers great sales and has many restaurants and a hotel. Also, it is located next to the Albrook Airport and Bus Terminal which is the main location to get transportation to all parts of Panama.
Albrook Mall is close to the city, yet near great hiking trails as well. The feel is very "American" but yet has just enough Latin flavor to make it fun. I bought some great cigars, had a nice lunch at a restaurant serving traditional Panamanian food. I had "ropa vieja" (old clothes) which is a shredded meat in a red sauce. Excellent! If you want a break from total Latin immersion, this is a nice pit stop.
One end (the new end with hotel) caters to upper end stores, while the old end serves the mass population with a lot of low price stores. The new Metro stops here. Worth a visit. The Mall is next to the bus terminal and you can get to anywhere from here by bus.
