We have a tradition. Every year around end of October all the men of our family and friends, upon invitation visit Klaserie dam for a weekend of brotherhood. The camping site, and ablustions are great. One thing that's not so great, it is seriously frowned upon if you take your speedboat out for a cruise. all the fisherman (some arrogant) complain and show you all kind of signs. But, we return here every year, see photo!
Camping on the banks of the Klaserie dam under the shade of the gorgeous overhanging trees was a real treat.Well managed ablutions and friendly management enhanced the experience. A short drive from the Kruger Park's Orpen Gate.
Ok, so the dam is anything but impressive but the walk to the place and the immense solitude more than make up for the disappointment of arriving at the destination. Make sure you visit the extremely old Boabob tree nearby which is the source of numerous myths and legends.
The luxury of visiting the Krueger on a private game reserve without finding a crowded number of cars or jeep surrounding. We didn't meet any other car during our safaris in 4 days !
The view is beautiful with a wide range of game. The southernmost baobab tree is nearby and worth the detour.
Been a few times and I'm afraid its getting worse. I actually asked the manager what the entrance fees are for and she said its to pay staff and do maintenance. However NO maintenance are done, grass is not mowed, ablutions are absolutely appalling and falling apart. Especially the day visitors area is very badly maintained and in a terrible state without any working toilet or water or BBQ facilities. Were there again a week ago and i was double charged for two nights and only stayed one. I got a stand without any water at all, and only after complaining the manageress came past and in a very rude way told us that this section of the island don't have any water, this after our camp was set up. Apparently there hasn't been water for a very long time judging by the wasps nests in the little outdoor shower. Again it didn't seem that she was worried, or that it should be her problem. The communal ablutions unfortunately not much better, broken, filthy and in poor state! How can these people ask money to stay here..?Klaserie Dam is on a very fast downward spiral and will only get better once there is new management. Hopefully soon, as the current management is absolutely oblivious to how bad a job they are doing and doesn't seem to really care about it as well! Save yourself a lot of trouble and go somewhere else!!!
