This winery was such a wonderful, pleasant surprise. We went there somewhat on a whim and are we glad we did! The BEST wines we've had in MD so far. Amazing. To get to the wine tasting area is a bit strange, you kind of think you're in the wrong spot since you drive through another farm first, but keep going! You'll find it. The wine tasting area is small -- probably couldn't fit more than 8-10 people comfortably, but is beautifully furnished and quite tasteful. The fee is $5 for 4 wines, but boy, are they amazing! We honestly couldn't decide which ones to purchase. Franc Blanc is different than anything we've had and totally worth buying a bottle. The Farmhouse Red is an outstanding everyday wine -- but don't let my use of everyday deter you, it's wonderful. The two Meritage vintages were totally on par with anything we've tried in the far more experienced Virginia wine country. Totally outstanding. But... besides the wines, the hospitality of the two hosts -- Doug and Maureen was OUTSTANDING! We walked in and they immediately introduced us to everyone else tasting. We felt like we were at a party at someone's house! Lots of information about the wines -- everything is HAND CRAFTED meaning they harvest, and do everything with the grapes BY HAND. Really spectacular wines. There is a nice outdoor area and while it isn't the most picturesque scene we've experienced, it was very pretty, quiet and peaceful. ABSOLUTELY worth the visit. The best wines in MD. Salut!
What they lack in range, they certainly make up for with some inventive and easy drinking wines. The Franc Blanc was a nice surprise. Brought half a case back to Australia with me. The proprietor and his wife do this as a hobby turned second business... a lovely guy and a beautiful location. Its a little off the main road and you need to drive past a working farm of sorts, but worth it.
