I want to thank Beachin Betty and River Rick for a wonderful trip on the Bon Secour River! Rick explained everything very clearly and happily answered our questions. My sister and I launched at 9am on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. The launch site is crystal clear spring water with a sandy bottom - just beautiful! The kayaks were very comfortable thanks to using the life jacket to pad our back rest and so easy to maneuver, This was my sister's first kayaking trip and she is hooked! We expected some boat traffic on the river but only saw 2 boats the whole time! We did see a blue heron surprisingly up close, an osprey, some turtles, and of course the jumping mullets! When we got back, we thought we had been gone about 3 hours and to our amazement, Rick said we had been gone for 5 hours! It was just an incredibly fun and relaxing time!
Hooked on Kayaking now! You can really tell the husband and wife team love what they do and want to share it with others. This is a self guided tour in which they give you directions before heading out. We were lucky enough to see a dolphin near the end of our route; what an absolutely amazing experience!
We just completed our kayak trip and it was great. We have a 5 and a 7 year old and we all enjoyed it. We had two double kayaks (one kid per kayak). The owners were super nice. The river is really romantic at the beginning and slowly gets wider. There is a lot to wild life to see (fishes, pelicans, turtles, etc). The water is nice and clear and we stopped at some sand banks to go swimming. All in all it was amazing and we definitely will come back.
A great day with the family. Kayaking down the Bon Secour river was an unforgettable experience and the best way to experience and appreciate the beauty of the area. Would definitely recommend this!
Even for a first time kayaker the owners made sure that we had a great experience. They showed us the basics and off we were. It was great to be on our own. You can explore anywhere that you wish. The scenery is beautiful and it is a great escape from the crowded beaches and other attractions. The owners were friendly and very knowledgeable. If you are around Foley you need to kayak here!
Having spent the 4th in Gulf Shores and on the beach constantly surrounded by hundreds of people, to escape into the serene waters of the Bon Secour River, provided a much needed escape. During our 4 hour trek morning of July 6th, I was surprised to only see 5 other people on the River that morning. The people on the shore were very friendly and excited to speak with us.You can find many of the hidden gems of Alabama during your adventure. You can find yourself among many of the large shrimping boats positioned there. If you are lucky, and we were, you can find a dolphin swimming next to you during the trip. If you are ready to relax and enjoy a nice adventure, this is your place. I would go again and recommend to my friends over and over again.Enjoy!!
We were here in 2012 and found beachnriver (on trip advisor). When we planned to come back to orange beach again this year, this was the first thing we booked. We love the area.....peaceful beauty. We even saw a dolphin this trip!!! And we could not ask for better hosts! When you get back, they have a basket full of Popsicles They even have sugar free ones for us diabetics!!If you are looking for a great way to spend a couple hours or a day, you cannot beat a day kayaking on the bon secour and you definitely cannot beat beachnriver to get you on the river.
Rick and Betty are awesome! The river is perfect for a day away from the beach. The water is crystal clear and cold. Easy for the kids and fun for the adults. We had 8 in our group and all had a good time.
This was the best thing I did on my trip to Gulf Shores. Betty and Rick were some of the nicest people. They both explained things thoroughly so that we would feel comfortable and enjoy our trip. The scenery was breathtaking. We made it to where the shrimp boats are and hung out in such a beautiful location. So much to see. Not only was the scenery great, there was also wildlife to look out for. We had dolphins swim next to us!!! The water was so calm. Every now and then, you could catch a wake from fellow boaters. Overall, if you are looking for a scenic and peaceful kayaking experience, I would definitely suggest BeachnRiver, especially at how amazingly low the cost is! You won't regret it!!
Rick and Betty are the nicest people you could ever meet. Rick explained everything we needed to know so that our experience would be a great one...and it was! Such beautiful scenery and the quiet was so relaxing...exactly what we needed! We would highly recommend this outing for anyone looking for a way to experience the Bon Secour and the natural beauty of the area. We had never kayaked before and had so much fun, we are anxious to do it again. We will definitely be going back to BeachnRiver Canoe and Kayak Rentals the next time we are in the area again!
This is our second time with BeachnRiver and we loved it. Betty and Rick and very accomodating and hospitable and work to make sure that we had a good experience. They like to do business sold school so call at least the day before. They have a web site, read it, because there are lots of tips on what to expect and what you should bring. The kayaking experience is wonderful. The kayaks are easy to handle, the river is slow. At first the channel is narrow and twisting and then opens up. There are lots of private houses with boat docks on the river. I love how the various owners express their individuality with the houses and decorations. We saw all sorts of ducks, herons, pelicans, and turtles. The few motor boats we encountered slowed way down to idle as they passed us and exchanged pleasant words with us. "Great day to be on the water" we'd tell each other. The highlight of trip was a dolphin we saw making his way upriver. We stayed well away from it to not bother it but we were close enough to hear him breathing as he surfaced. We had a pretty good workout by the time we finished but thoroughly chilled out and relaxed. What a day.I highly recommend BeachnRiver if you are in the Gulf Shores area and want to do something different.
Just did this kayaking trip with my grown daughter and plan to again with friends soon. I live in the area but don't have a boat so this was informative as well as fun and relaxing. The water view is so interesting and the pace is all up to you. Betty and Rick are very responsive and most helpful so it is a wonderful experience. A perfect break or option from the beach.
Betty and Rick arranged to meet us in the afternoon on the beautifully clear Wolf Creek. My husband, Mother (67), and I kayaked with ease while enjoying the tranquil creek, beautiful nature and wild life. This is family friendly kayaking with two nice owner/guides. If you want to get out on the water and enjoy nature, this is a great way to go!
We had a wonderful time kayaking the Spring Creek with Betty and Rick. We had the best November weather with blue skies and not a cloud in sight. We left 1:00 p.m. rather than the usual 11:00 a.m. to allow the weather to warm up a little and this was a good idea. We were a group of three 60 something friends spending some quality time in Orange Beach. The creek was pristine and we saw Egrets, Herons, and Pelicans as pointed out by Betty and Rick. We had a great time and highly recommend this tour.
My family of four had a great time doing this. We made reservations for a day that turned out to be pretty stormy, but we drove out from Gulf Shores (about a 15 min drive) nonetheless, with our fingers crossed! River Rick met us and after waiting a bit for the rain to let up, told us that it just wasn't safe. So, we made arrangements to try again later in the week. Points for safety! When we did go, it was such an easy process, and had the added bonus of a little bit of physical exertion to work off all the huge vacation dinners (but not so much that the kids--teenagers--ever complained). I had never kayaked before, so I was a bit nervous, but it was easy. It was gorgeous, and seeing all of the wildife (lots of turtles!) was an added bonus. We wound up going out pretty far, which tired out the kids, but they did say it was one of their favorite activities of our family vacation. I concur!
