This was my first time riding an ATV, and we found a Groupon for the swamp tour so we decided to go for it. I figured it would be more fun than a regular swamp tour, and OMG, I was right. The place we met at was somewhat difficult to find, so make sure you have some good directions. After watching a video and getting fitted with helmets, we were taken to the swamp. The swamp is an open area by some power plants and a highway, which wasn't what I really expected, but it is a lot different when you're actually IN it, as you are on an ATV. Because this was my first time, I started off kind of slow and got stuck in the mud a couple times before I figured out how to not fill the tank up with water. The young guy that was our tour guide helped me each time, although he was rushing me a bit at the first. As I got more confident and started going faster, it was great. We saw a lot of birds and swamp plants, got absolutely COVERED in mud (I had mud tan lines afterwards, boo), and our tour guide pointed out alligators as he saw them. Another woman we were with almost drove her ATV into the water that had an alligator in it, so that was exciting. The tour guide jumped off his ATV and brought hers back out of the water. The whole thing didn't exactly feel safe, but it was thrilling and something I will always remember. It is also probably the dirtiest I've ever been. Afterwards, we had a couple of beers from our cooler before heading back to the hotel. A note: the outfitters tell you beforehand to only do what you feel comfortable doing, but if you go with a group, you will probably be pressured to go faster than you want and over steep hills. We embraced the craziness, but if you are nervous, you probably shouldn't learn to ride an ATV in the swamp.
I came down from Boston to Louisiana to visit my friend. We wanted to do something fun so we thought ATVing would be cool. It was wicked awesome!!! It was raining when we went which made the whole experience even better. Danny was awesome! He was so great and made sure we felt safe. He pointed out cool things about the swamp. We saw 2 gators. He def knew what he was doing. Best guide ever. It was def the highlight of my trip to the south : ) Kate
I surprised my Wife with this Groupon for our honeymoon Road trip. I thought it would just be a fun thing to do during our 3 night stay in New Orleans. I half expected it to be kind of corny, however, it exceeded all expectations. Daniel took us out and we had the spillway to ourselves, it was a lot of riding and we got good n' dirty! Daniel wouldn't take us back in until we came across some gators, which we found! The ATV's were in good working order and were easy to master. David, the owner, was great about communicating and made the process nice and smooth. Our experience was a great one and the folks who run it are very friendly. You should absolutely check these guys out, you won't be disappointed. Bring a change of clothes, if you don't enjoy getting wet/muddy stay at home!
We learned about this business through Groupon. I am so glad we did! My husband and I reserved two machines and had Danny as our tour guide. Our tour was on a Tuesday, and we had the entire spillway to ourselves--no other atv-ers out there! Danny was incredibly accommodating and helpful. We took a trail ride, came back for the camera, then hit the mud. Amazing experience all around. We will definitely use this tour again on our next visits to the city.
Thanks for sharing your review. Sorry that you found the small window sticker on the guides truck offensive.Yes we require all guests to pay to go on our ATV excursions. Most ATV's are single rider as passengers pose a serious safety risk.As for the mud thats sounds about right, ATV riding is not for everyone, but from the pictures I saw it looked like they were enjoying it.
