Nice bike trail to ride on. Don't forget your helmet. Take a tour of the museum. Have a beer or rootbear at abita pub.

Abita is one of my favorite trailhead. There is a cool museum that was a train depot and a nice gazebo and playground for the kids. There is a good restaurant beside the trailhead too. If you have bikes, it's great to go from one trailhead to the next. They are around 4ish miles apart. Otherwise it's very peaceful for walking. The trail is all paved and there is a ranger on duty who rides the trail. It does close at dark so plan accordingly so you don't get stuck between trailheads as it's getting dark.

Small museum on the Tammany Trace in Abita Springs. Great to stop and take a break from bike riding. Also, the Abita Pub restaurant is very close by. We were given the tour by the mayor of Abita Springs. Donations only for admission, We also chose to buy a pin from their very small gift section. Worth stopping to get a history of Abita Springs.

I found this museum about Abita Springs really interesting and informative. It's not big and only takes a short time to visit but it really tells you about the town and it's history. Afterwards take a walk around the town and parks. It used to be an escape from the heat, humidity, and yellow fever of New Orleans. Look out for the lovely Rail to Trail for a walk or bike ride.

This little museum in a reclaimed train station is a wonderful little history tour of Abita Springs. This educational portion of what can be a very enjoyable day in Abita. From the little shops across the way, to the pavilion and playground with splash pad. This area of St. Tammany parish is a must visit. This is located on the Tammany Trace. Which is a reclaimed section of railroad track that has been converted to a walk/bike trail which is part of the national Rail Trail system and the first in Louisiana. The Trace runs from Slidel to Mandeville, north to Abita Springs and then finishes in Covington.Go see the museum, walk the Trace, buy lunch at the Abita Springs brew pub and enjoy a relaxing day of southern hospitality in this southern gem.

Quaint litte museum along The Trace and in Abita Park next to the Pavillion. Tells full history of Abita Springs with numerous old pictures and artifacts depicting the early days of Abita Springs. Enjoy the museum and have a pleasant lunch next door at the Abita Brew Pub, Abita Café, or Mama D's Pizza.

Very interesting view into the town of Abita Springs....I always just thought of it as the home of Abita beer, but apparently it was quite the vacation destination in its day. People from New Orleans used to take a steamboat over Lake Ponchartrain to stay here, and I believe the docent told us they had a 600 room hotel? They have a lovely trail that you can bike, run or walk on, I believe it goes for 37 miles. Definitely worth a look.

The docents were very good and really made the visit worthwhile. Enjoyed looking at the old photos. Try to schedule your visit with one of their musical events as the museum is small and you could go through it quickly.
