Snow shoed here and it was great. The staff at the center was so nice and accommodating. They were well educated in the history and did all they could to assist us.
Probably one of the nicest old Visitor Center you can visit. A good start for Saratoga Springs! Don't miss plaque outside dedicated to Solomon Northup!
We stopped in at the visitor center before heading out to explore the Adirondack region. The folks at the center were very knowledgeable about the area and very helpful.
You should begin at the visitors center, the front desk attendant (Margaret?) was very nice and provided us with information. We found all of the attractions with no problems.
You most definitely should start your stay in Saratoga Springs by stopping in at the Visitor's Center. The woman that was there on the Sunday that we visited was very helpful. The center has many brochures and posters of what is going on in the city. We picked up maps of the main street and cups to sample the mineral waters at the fountains in Congress Park! Stopping at the Visitor's Center is a real "MUST" when visiting Saratoga Springs, NY!
If you're looking for brochures, this is the place. I suspect though that the staff are all good hearted volunteers, but don't really have the answers to your questions
Sis and I in Saratoga for weekend. Thought we'd start our visit with a guided tour, either walking or otherwise, of some area of Saratoga. When I asked for guide, the woman looked at me like I was crazy. No, they didn't have anything like that. Hm. So, we moved on to ask about doing our own walking tour of Congress Park, water springs, etc. ... the woman was kind enough to map it out for me, but I didn't understand her directions at all! very confusing. We figured it out but we didn't feel like it was with any help from the visitors' center. Very disappointed. The building is nice and has a nicely appointed museum inside.
My girlfriend and I were in Saratoga for Labor Day weekend and found the Visitor's Center and the tour in Congress Park highly impressive. The tour guide on August 31st was an entrepreneur who was filling in for someone else but his exceptional knowledge of the history and geology of Saratoga provided us a unique perspective on the origins of Saratoga ranging from the impact of mineral water, geology of the region, the casino, racing and all if the intriguing individuals that helped shape this wonderful city. And we also managed to taste some of the Spring water. We highly recommend the tour!
Stopped by for directions to the hotel. The elderly woman seemed confused about where the hotel was and how to get there. .. She did manage to explain it and it was fine but I do think she should have been more knowledgeable. I would have like to look at the info but my husband was parked in the street and I felt we should move on.
The staff could be more engaged. Once we got their attention, they recommended a tour of the State Park for the spa (mineral springs) that was very worthwhile.
WE found the information pamphlets helpful, the staff person was very friendly and the short video about the Saratoga Springs was really informative and interesting.
We arrived at the center today around 10 a.m. After walking around and watching the 15 video we were about to leave, then they announced a walking tour. It cost $5 per. No warning that the tour would last ~90 minutes. Regardless, our tour guide, Ray, did a wonderful job pointing out the sights and taking us on a walk through Congress Park, culminating with a taste of the Spring water. I think the tour is a week-end only event so plan ahead.
What a great bunch of people. A great way to atart your vacation in Saratoga Spr. They know how to make you feel welcome.
In my travels all over, I've never felt compelled to review a Visitor Center...but there's a first for everything & the one in Saratoga Springs is special. For starters, have a look at how pretty the building is...and it rests on the site of some historical happenings (anyone see the movie '12 Years a Slave'?)Inside, the visitor center guides are passionate about their town & eager to offer a mini history lesson. The old photos and memorabilia are really interesting. And of course, you'll find all the brochures needed for local attractions to ensure a fun-filled time while in Saratoga Springs and the surrounding area. Congress Park, a beautiful place to meander, is directly across the street and a great second stop.
Plenty of info on the area - brochures plus interesting info about Saratoga Springs. A good place to stop.
