I imagine this is one of the few waterwheel exhibits you will ever see. Also liked the old printing press and print.
Stepped in, saw the admission charge, and stepped right back out again. Sorry, not worth the price of admission....
It was a quaint place to visit. But we expected more. It had some interesting items to see, but we didn't think it was worth the admission price of $5 each. We wouldn't visit it again.
The historical society is a complex of buildings including a log cabin, little pink (not red) schoolhouse, car & carriage bar, and Victorian mansion. The mansion was bequeathed directly by the original family, so it has original furnishings, and has been restored with old photographs for comparison. The only aspect lacking is a good guide or docent, although there is a printed brochure with color photographs and additional printed material in each room. There are some excellent Chinese antiques.
A good place to visit if you are interested in the history of the north country. The garden is beautiful. Look for their house tour and ice cream social during the summer.
They change the exhibits freq., have tours, fun days with hands on exhibits and a nice shop full of odds and ends.
You see the mansion first, basement is in process of building a children's railroad town, has many wood burning stoves--never saw them THIS ornate, old dentists chair (what memories!), a firemen's display, clothing--people were so tiny! Outbuildings were brought there: log cabin, PINK school house (ask why), carriage house. All next to a bank and across from the Flower's Library.
