Well kept. Visit dead people today. The actual building is quite a sight to see. Onyx pillars? Same guy who did the troy public library.

This is where Uncle Sam lays. Troy was once one of the wealthiest towns and you can see it by the tombstones and Mausoleums. Beautiful structures. And the old crematorium is reminiscent of an old gothic church. The grounds are rich with old forest and filled with water features (lake, waterfalls). In the spring, the park is abundant with daffodils.

Oakwood Cemetery is a beautiful place. It has a lot of history. Troy was a major important city during the Industrial Revolution and many prominent citizens from that period are buried there. It is a great place to just wander around and enjoy the beauty. They also offer wonderful tours on various topics. The tours are usually on Saturdays from Spring to Fall, I think. They ere listed on the cemetery website. It is a great place for nature lovers and history buffs. Uncle Sam is buried there.

The Oakwood Cemetery is known for being haunted. I've been there several times and enjoy the beautiful buildings and walking around. It's quite lovely although I've never witnessed anything supernatural. If you're in the are stop to visit.

However, it was an interesting drive through the cemetery. One of the biggest cemeteries we've been in. Be sure to see the gravesite of Uncle Sam. Also try to get directions so you can drive to the top of the big Bluff where you can overlook all of Troy. There is a descriptive plaque there to tell you what you're looking at. Obviously, it's a very peaceful place! Makes you think.

Visited this cemetery via vehicle and walking through the miles of narrow roads throughout. Trees, vegetation, rolling hills, lakes, waterfalls and a stunning overlook of the valley are there to inspire and rejuvenate the senses. Animals such as squirrels and deer are abundant. The cemetery is park like with many hundreds of headstones, perhaps thousands of headstones there. They are well maintained and it is a place of peace and respect. Easy access, with closure at 7pm. I would not recommend staying after dusk as it is considered one of the most "haunted" cemeteries in the USA. There must be many memories among all the buried and it is a peaceful place. Highly recommended!

My sister told me about this cemetery after seeing their website. We took a day and drove nearly 2 hours to tour it. They are very welcoming and the man in the office was more than happy to provide a guide map of the cemetery. There was a beautiful bluff overlooking the river valley as well as 2 waterfalls, lakes, and historic monuments. The stones, mausolea, roads, landscaping, and sculptures were awesome. They had a nice chapel in the middle of the cemetery which was closed but structurally impressive as well as a huge chapel and crematorium near one of the entrances. The resting place of "Uncle Sam" Wilson who provided meat to soldiers in I believe, the War of 1812 is in this cemetery. He stamped "U.S" on the crates and the soldiers said they got a shipment from "Uncle Sam" They offer tours too here and we plan to go. Check out their website. Visiting is free but the tours have a nominal cost.
