Having lost a disproportionate amount of its citizens on Sept 11, this tasteful but powerful memorial is worth taking a few steps from the ferry to see.

I visited here last month both at night and during the day and it was beautiful, this tribute to those who died on the day of 911 from Staten Island is amazing and well worth visiting. It is walking distance from the Staten Island Ferry terminal.

The memorial is very simple yet very poignant. There are postcards from the families of the victims of 9/11 telling of their pain.

exiting the ferry, go right and walk down the esplanade til you reach the memorial. It is a white structure shaped similar to the old World Trade Center but curving. Inside the structure, the Sept. 11, 2001 deceased from Staten Island are commemorated. May their memory be eternal.

Postcards is in a beautiful, serene setting just down the promenade from the Staten Island ferry terminal. The memorial itself is to the Staten Island residents who died on September 11th. The two white sculptures almost look like wings, carrying the souls away. The inside of each large structure is lined with individual marble "postcards." Each card is an individual tribute, with name, dates, and where each person worked. What makes this so incredibly moving is that one vertical side of each card is shaped in the person's profile. Very sobering. It's kind of difficult to explain how this is set up, but it is definitely worth seeing. Even though I don't know anyone from Staten Island who died that day, this memorial is so incredibly moving for me because Postcards is so intimate and personal .

Really thoughtful tribute to the lost of 9/11 from Staten Island. The facial profiles along with their occupation brings thoughts flooding to mind. Worth the short 5 minute work from the ferry.Also poignant how it focuses you to the site of the World trade centres as you look through the gap. Well done Staten Island.

Postcards is a graceful understated tribute to the men and women lost on 9/11. Its a beautiful spot to remember and reflect.

As a Partial season ticket holder of the Staten Island Yankees, I visit this 9/11 memorial at least 2 or 3 times a year, especially in the weeks leading up to the anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center. Even though I personally don't know anyone on Staten Island who died in the terrorist attacks, I saw the second tower come down (I was at work in Hoboken, NJ when it happened) and it is indeed emotional to look at the pictures and read the names of the people who were killed that day. As far as visiting at night, as long as the Staten Island Yankees are playing a home game and there are people around (the memorial is right across from the ballpark),it should be safe.

Yes I agree with another review that this is not strictly an 'attraction' but this is the only way for it to be listed on Tripadvisor and for other people then to know about it and to visit and show respect.There are other memorials to this and other tragedies that one would not know about had it not been for Tripadvisor.This should be on everyone's itinerary when visiting the island - and it us not a long walk from the Ferry Terminal - just turn right as you come out and walk for 5 - 10 minutes slowly.The design of the memorial is very clever and haunting with the 'postcards' and the outline of the persons side-on profile.Such a peaceful place looking across to the Financial District and the area where the Towers were.

We included a small trip to staten island during our visit in NYC, and we were glad to do so. After you reach it by the ferry, the memorial is only a couple of minutes walk, just by the water. It's interesting to see the details put into it, you can see the names and faces of each service man and woman that passed away during the tragic events of 9/11.Also you could enjoy Manhattan skyline in front you, so it's a double win :)

Came over to Staten Island on the free ferry and took a short walk along the boardwalk to see this fitting tribute to the fallen Staten Islanders from 9/11. It's a beautiful memorial and it's very poignant seeing all the names of the fallen engraved on the 'postcards.'

Beautiful tribute by the harbor. The memorial was adorned with fresh flowers for 9/11/14. The area seems to be well kept. Beautiful

We were staying on Staten Island during our visit to nyc. We saw this walking to ferry from parking lot. The next day decided to take the time to visit. The entire design,location are amazing. The view from the center looking to manhattan aligns with location of former World Trade Center. The profiles of the people lost in the terrorist attacks is a lasting tribute to those people. To be able to not only read a name but to see what they looked like in profile was deeply impacting. Not just a name but a real person If you are in the area this is very worth your while. If just taking a ride on the ferry from NYC then back get off and go see it.
