The day of the Sneak Peek was almost 90 and it felt it. There are no trees, or shade. The unique views of Staten Island and the Freedom Tower are interesting too. I rode my bike, making the dusty trails a little more fun. There are hills, plenty of them, so make sure you have water if its hot. Be careful of Ticks! /Good shoes a necessity. On the sneak peek day the Parks dept had arranged for free "Boxed Water" for everybody as well as complementary kayak rides on Fresh Kills. There were rental bikes too. Check it out, its usually held the last weekend in September until its finally rehabilitated from its landfill status.
i attended a hike through Fresh Kills Park on Sat. This was my first experience to see the park that used to be known as "the Dump" until the government decided to turn this land into a park for all the people to enjoy. We hiked up to the second highest point as the guide, Chris, told us about how this park has been turned from a landfill to a park masterpiece. We learned how the garbage was "capped"so that it is actually turned into gas used by over a thousand families on SI. We also learned about the wildlife, the fish, the native plants here in the park. We discovered that dayaking, biking, walkeing tours, are available and about the upcoming sneak peak to take place on Sept 28th so that more can get to know about the hidden treasure.
