Capitolfest is held each August at this magnificent 1928 theatre. The selection of films is top-quality. The silent film presentations are enhanced by the magnificant Mohler organ, still in its original placement. Sound films are equally enjoyable in either rare 35mm or digital presentations. The theatre is beautifully restored and has excellent sight lines, as well as good air conditioning. This event continues over 3 days and is fun for all ages. All-events, daily or session admissions are available.

This was really cool if you are an old movie buff. Just to see the theater is impressive - and during the intermission between movies - an old organ located in the orchestra pit is raised and one of the volunteers actually plays it!! I loved this place - one word of warning (the seats are old and not nearly as comfortable as more modern theater seating - all part of the experience!!)

Thank you so much for your kind words! We hope to see you at this year's Capitolfest, August 8-10, where we will be featuring the films of William Powell, among other great silent and early talkie gems!

I have been taking my children here since they were small - they love the black and white monster movies for the "Summer Drive-in" and the Halloween showings. We've done the tour as well as the Cartoon Madness We do the special events too. I usually go w/friends to the Summer Stage productions too. The Capital adds so much to our city and it will always hold great memories for me and my children.

Love the historic Capitol Theatre....the olden day charm. I can see well, enjoy the shows that I have seen and enjoy an inexpensive treat. Great family experience for a great price!

The Capitol Theater is a fantastic place to spend a weekend! I recently attended their Capitolfest film festival and had a tremendously great time enjoying all the movies from early silents right through the pre-code era. This venue has an AMAZING Moller Theater organ with all the bells and whistles (literally!!) and it sounds terrific when accompanying silent films or just being played for fun during the intermissions. The staff and volunteers are top notch and very helpful when us out-of-towners are searching for a place to dine or have a cocktail at the end of the night. I will be back!

We attended Capitolfest, a vintage movie festival. The theatre is historic (1927) and has one of the 3-4 remaining Mohler movie organs in its original position. Many of these rare films were silents, and the festival imports extraordinarily talented theatre organists to accompany them. The festival is very fan-friendly, in that it allows ample time for meals and doesn't start too early or run too late in the day. This event, held the second weekend in August, is only one of the many events this theatre offers.

What a beautiful restoration job at the Capitol theater....attended an early silent film festival called Capitolfest. And what a treat to see silent 35mm films and to hear the regional organ being played by such talented musicians. An amazing step back in time ....not to be missed

This is just a place to experience. It once was a thriving movie theater for all of Rome to attend, but over the years, it has entered a new stage--rebuilding and renovation. The inside structure and theater elements like stage, curtains, seating are interesting.

Why they persist in showing old movies is beyond me. I do enjoy the theater when they infrequently put on a Broadway play or the annual Nutcracker ballet. Other than that, I usually attend the Stanley Theater in Utica, but I guess they have more money via a stronger clientele.

The Capitol on Rome's mall area, is an old theater that still is very active. The John Hayes O'Neil dance studio puts on many performances there, including the annual Nutcracker, featuring local children and adults. Always a highlight of the Christmas season. The Capitol also offers old movies and other types of shows. The theater itself isn't all that great, but fun to attend an event there and then move on.

Used to see movies as a kid here and it's so nice to see it in great shape and still being used. Nice to see old films offered as well as special events in Rome.

We went to the Elders benefit concert at the Capitol. The theater still has the charm of yesteryear and is nice and clean. But you can tell they are still in the process of fixing the lovely old place up. It definitely has a personality that modern movieplexes could never hope to achieve. I joined their facebook page recently too, and I get a sense that the Capitol is very family-friendly and community oriented.

Saw It's a Wonderful Life on the big screen. Comfy seats. Great screen and sound. Fresh popcorn. Coffee. A nice night. Each month another old movie will be shown. Theater has more than this to offer but I focus on the oldies. Nice place.
