step back into the past generations and see how they did things back then ..its a great school trip but I liked it most when the children were young and spend time in each building.

Museum Village is about 5 minutes from our home. We often drive by it on our way to Rt. 17N. It is a historical village of colonial times and you can visit the interiors of the buildings. There are special celebrations, such as on the 4th of July. The theatre produces many fine plays with an apple pie a-la-mode intermission treat! Visit it any time of year and have fun!

We absolutely love Museum Village! It's a great place for kids and adults both. I had to give it 5 stars, because of the awesome place it is. But about the ghost tour -- it wasn't what the newspaper and Museum Village's own website said it would be. Except for about 10 minutes of stories of ghost sitings at the village in the very beginning, it was a medium calling on the spirits of the dead to make themselves known -- first the spirits of historic people related to the village and then the dead relatives of the guests. We were very uncomfortable as the medium went from guest to guest supposedly with messages for them from their dead family members. If you are looking for a seance, then, by all means, go. You might love it. But if you are expecting tales of ghost sitings and historic legends of ghosts, that is not what this "ghost tour" is all about.

Great place to learn about the early days in Orange County New York. They have a complete Mastodon skelton that is simply amazing to see.

Once again, This year's (2013) annual civil war weekend was, awesome and spectacular! This is only one of the few great events held at this museum, during the year. Always free parking, and a petting area with farm animals for the kids, make this a great day trip.Candle making, broom making, and a visit to the print shop are also fun as well as educational. There is something for young & old here at Museum Village. It is important to check their website to see all the many special events they have going on. Don't miss this little gem of Living History! A collection of different buildings you'd find in a village from the 1700s in the north east including a blacksmith and school house. Things for kids to do like making candles and spinning wool and plenty of people there to answer any questions. Certain times of the year have different things going on such as civil war reenactments and a haunted house. Going during fall when the weather is not as hot and the trees look nice is the best time to go. Make sure to take a look at the mastodon skeleton.

This village is a nice stop to see the workings of a historical village. The area is nice. Parking is easy. There are many buildings including a school, a pharmacy, a forge, and many others with lots of docents to guide and teach. It's a nice day trip if you enjoy history. They get many school groups.

The place is interesting enough. Went othe ciil war weekend. Seeing these "actors" interact was amazing and interesting. The place lacked direction, mening there was no rhyme or reason for anything oing on....no schedule, no purpose. I liked the town buildings from old time,showing tan old print shop, my favorite by far, school,...weaving shop, pottery, etc...but there was no set schedule....people would walk in, and the actors would start over...confusing. The food area needed an upgrade, but glad I went once.

This is a unique place as the "museum" is actually a small village that preserved the shops and other services that existed in the 19th century. There are even shop keepers dressed in time period clothing. There are special events and plays as well as an occasional re-enactment. Museum Village is good for just about any age group.

Wonderful place to enjoy the day outside and inside with living history. The best is the Labor Dayweekend ..... Civil War .... with North and South soldiers, horses, and camp out.

I haven't been there in a while, however, when my girls were little, we would go to a variety of events there. In the summer there is Civil War re-enactment weekend, excellent. In the fall they have a 'haunted' Halloween day/night, non-scary during the day, a little scary at night. During the year though, you can just go in and walk around the different buildings and learn a new and different things about the past, i.e. candle making, there is a print shop and they even have a Mastodon that was dug up in the area! There is a snack area with typical fare, and they also have a General Store.

I really like the feel that you really are a homesteader back in the 1700's or so. If you put your mind to it, you could feel the same.You make home made candles with cow fat, you could have home made soup and turkey that they made from the fire without a stove, and see how it really was to go to school in a one room school house! Even better, the staff all dresses like they're from the 1600's too!...I highly reccommend that you go in the fall, it gives it a much better look, the leaves are BEAUTIFUL and when your outside, you go in the little activity homes and they have heat coming from woodburning stoves to heat up the house, its really cool!

when i was younger i went on a school trip there it was awsome seince i was really into hisory. ther was lots of things to do and it was very infomitive.
