we came in mid-September, not a lot of fruit around, but we were positively entranced by the McClew Farmstead Underground Railroad presentation, a loving visual lecture on a time best left forgotten, but necessarily remembered...
We got so caught up in picking sweet, red cherries right from the trees and checking out the farm stand store we almost left without visiting the Underground Railroad exhibit...very cool presentation of a very important part of American History...don't miss it.
Absolutely delightful orchards near the Lake Ontario shoreline, 30 mile north of Buffalo, NY. This is the quintessential U-Pick, with small crowds, high charm content, and fabulous fruit in almost any season. Ideal for young kids, as they can wander almost at will, giving parents a bit of a break, too. Low-key ownership/staff, very pleasant, with a quiet and quaint tea shop/restaurant, featuring home made/home grown food. Finally, an old hiding place on the underground railroad exists on the farm, hidden below the barn floor, with a pleasant, low-key interpretive center. All very quiet, pleasant, and idyllic, really, just exactly what we wanted for a quiet get-away with kids, healthy eating, and an adult tea/coffee light meal.
