There is no parking inside the fort but visitors are allowed to drive through. The Fort is owned by NYC and houses Fire Fighters and some police. There is a history museum but you need to park outside the fort and walk in to visit the museum.

I wish here was parking on the premises. This place reminds me vaguely of the Presidio in San Francisco.

I took my son to the pool at fort totten. We had a nice day. I went with my husband. They served lunch for the kids that day which I thought it was nice.

Lots of open space for biking and running. Interesting place to wander and take in the sights on the bay,

Fort Totten and the park are great places to visit. You can take the most scenic stroll starting at the fort and continue along the Cross Island Pkwy all the way to Northern Blvd. There is a shorter path from what used to be a parking lot (now under construction that is taking forever to finish) to Utopia Pkwy, as well as soccer and baseball fields. In the roller hockey rink there are parks dept events held, including zumba and the like. In addition, a small dog park was added a couple of years ago. On a summer's day people can be seen sunbathing and picnicking in the grassy areas, flying kites, and fishing off the jetty. In the evenings, following a schedule movies are shown on a giant projector screen. Bring your lawn chairs and bug spray for this!People walk, ride, and jog well into the Fall months. To park you must now take the service road of the parkway and park under the bridge. During times when there are scheduled games this lot does fill up.There is history to be learned inside the base, as well as a pool. A playground would be awesome. The view gorgeous!

The Fort Totten pool is open to the public free of charge 6 days a week (it's closed wednesdays) in the summer. they are restrictive in what you may bring within the confines of the pool but they do have lockers for your convenience. no electronics allowed (no phones! - this is why you don't see photos of the pool). the grounds at fort totten are really pretty and the views are incredible. bring a picnic lunch - it's a gem hidden in queens!

It's a great place to walk or bike around in. Very historic...predates the Revolutionary War.Tours are given. It is well maintained and preserved. AND there's plenty of parking. ALSO...there are community activities taking place there. It is a treasure.

Wonderful clean free public pool open to the public in the summer. If you drive, you need to find street parking outside of the fort, unless you have an armed forces sticker on your car. The Q13 bus drops off at Bell Blvd and Ft. Totten, and its a block walk away from the park gate entrance. Be advised, you will need to walk to the pool from the entrance or take the complimentary pool shuttle, which passes by every 10 minutes or so. The pool is about a 5 minute walk through the scenic and historic park from the entrance. No floaties or toys are allowed in the pool, and you must bring a lock for the free lockers. I suggest locking up any valuables in the car or in the lockers, including cell phones. There are a limited number of lounge chairs you can claim on a first-come basis. Children in diapers must wear swim diapers. The pool is closed on Wednesdays, but is otherwise open during the week and on Sat/Sun for two sessions, one in the morning (11-3) and one in the afternoon (4-6:45pm). There is a diving pool and a baby pool as well. If you want to picnic, you can do so right outside of the fenced in area in the grassy area/soccer fields that face the pool.

Somewhat hidden and inaccessible, but worth a trip to. An old naval base, you can see why commanding officers chose this spot hundreds of years ago. The architecture is well preserved, the paths and roads are quiet, and there is ample planning for sports and recreation, with pools, baseball diamonds, and soccer fields.

Cool spot to walk and see some history while also enjoying the playground & the view from across the ocean.

I often ride my bike through Fort Totten. It is very peaceful and the scenery is lovely. You can even arrange a guided tour with the park ranger to see the actual fort that they have there. All together a great experience :]

Even though it is a Military Base, you can enter by foot and enjoy great views and empty space. Also you can see the beautiful scenery of old houses and even a museum in Fort Totten.Great place everytime, been there several times.

visited the place during summer and fall. People were fishing on the shore. Nice to take a stroll around it and enjoy the peace and water.

I visit this place when its summer time and I want to take my kids to a local pool to enjoy. Its a walk from the entrance to walk all the way to the pool maybe 10-15 min walk. there is a large swimming pool and a kiddy pool. This past summer kiddie pool was closed due to budget cuts. The pool water is cold, not the best pools I prefer them to be heated...I don't like the fact that they close from 2-3pm or 3-4pm for a break/lunch. I think its a way of saving money or something...Everyone has to get out leave the pool area and then come back when they re open again. this is a big hassle, especially when you have kids with strollers..its fun for kids to play in pool and all..but if I had to change anything..I would put more staff so they open the kiddie pool without delays.I would make the pools heated, because in the summer the water is ice coldAnd I would rotate the lifeguards and the staff so they take turns at lunchtime so they don't have to close the whole pool area for 1 hr its a waste of time..

It's a great outdoor area to go for a nice stroll. Best part is everyone is working out some how so you get in the spirits and can never be shy. You can fish there but you need patience. You see the city which is nice. It's great during fourth of July. Great place to just relax.
