timpanogos cave national monument

I went here with my family and had a great time. The climb to the top is taxing but doable for most people. The cave is interesting and the guides well-informed. The opportunity for pictures going up and coming down is also great.

The hike to the cave is quite long and steep, however, there are benches along the way if you want to stop for a break. As others have mentioned, it is best to go in the morning before it gets too hot. It is cold in the cave so you may want to take a light jacket. Take water and snacks with you as well as a camera for the beautiful views you will see along the way. The cave is very interesting and fun to go through. It is well worth the long hike. Going down is not difficult but you need to watch children as it is very steep and once they getting running they may not be able to stop and go right off the edge.

The monument charges a modest fee per person for the guided tour of the cave. Be prepared to hike 1.5 miles on a paved trail that climbs 1500 feet. Summer months can be very hot, so book the early tours if available (make reservations). The views on the hike are spectacular, and the caves (Timp Cave consists of 3 interconnected caves) are exceptionally beautiful.

Purchase your tickets a week or so before your trip. Plan an early morning hike as it does get hot during the summer months. Pack water and some granola bars and don't forget your camera, even though you wont be able to take many photos inside the cave, the views from the hike are beautiful.Take a sweater along as it does get a bit chilly inside the cave. Duck! Low hanging stalactites.Recommend this for children 8 years and older. At one point they will turn off the lights and you will be in complete darkness. This may be frightening to some children. If you are claustrophobic, I recommend you wait for your group outside the cave. You do not need a ticket to do the hike, but need one to enter the cave.Restrooms are close to the end of the hike. Be safe, many children and adults, have fallen off the path from walking backwards, or running along the path. The path is wide enough, people just don't pay attention to where they are going. There is a picnic area across the road from the ranger station.

This is a great place - once you get there!!The hike up to the entrance would be challenging for people unused to a steep hike and I wouldn't recommend you try to take younger children. That said, if you can take the hike up then the experience in the caves is well worth it :)

This is kind of a long hike up to the cave but well worth the walk once you get to go in and see all the different things that are happening behind the rock. Very Interesting facts

When you visit the Wasatch Front, you must see the Timp Cave. The short hike is strenuous but simple on a paved trail. This is my favorite tite/mite formation cave. Have seen some more talked about, but to me they do not compare.

Initial hike to the cave is via a steep trail on a narrow but paved path. Take water with you for the hike, and a jacket to wear inside the cave. Inside the cave is definitely chilly. Leave about 1 hour to hike up the trail. And about an hour to tour the cave. I would not plan on pushing a stroller up the path, it's too steep.Tickets sell out early, so plan ahead and buy online so you are able to plan appropriately. Tour guides are knowledgeable and spend a lot of time teaching. My kids were fascinated.

Cave is cool the hike is easy, but long and steep enough to feel like a good workout! Going in the fall is great weather!

Tinpanogos is actually three interconnected caves discovered at different times. The temperature is always hovering around 45-50 in the cave so dress accordingly. You should schedule in advance a tour time; then it is recommended you leave the visitor center where you pick up your reserved tickets 90 minutes before your cave tour actually starts; this gives you plenty of time to walk up hill to the cave on your own. The guides meet you at the cave and they conduct a great tour of the unique set of caves.

The guided tour through the system of caves it easy and absolutely beautiful. The rangers are able to explain all the amazing sites and allow ample time for all the photographs you want to take.The tough part is getting to the caves. I suggest you make the trek up to the caves early or late in the day to avoid the heat. It is a 1 1/2 mile strenuous hike up to the caves. You need to be in fairly good health. A local group of seniors makes a timed walk up to the caves several times a week just for the exercise. They kind of humbled me as the passed by as I panted and sweated my way up the hill!

This is one of the nicest caves aver visited. the experience is great. Lots of things to see, you get into tight, dark and cold but fun places. Is a must see if you are near American Fork Utah.

Book early, you can only get in with a reservation and they are limited. You will not be able to access the cave without a reservation for a tour. You will be hot and sweaty on the climb up & then enter a 45 degree cave, so bring a sweater/jacket for the cave tour itself. A great cave experience, but be ready for a steep hike to get there! My 80 year dad made it, but he's a mountain goat… the sedentary should be prepared for a hard slog, so bring your water. If my calculations prove correct, felt like about a 12-13% average grade.. that's a climb.. and it's about 1 1/2 miles. Did see plenty of kids, so probably more of a warning for parents. ;)

I have visited Carlsbad Caverns, Mammoth Cave and Kartchner Caverns but never have I felt a awed as I did at Timpanogos Caves. But you really have to work for it. The trail to the entrance is only 1.5 miles but the vertical climb is about one thousand feet (starting at over 6000 feet). They allow you an hour and a half to get up there and we needed every minute of it. The path inside the cave is not strenuous but there are some narrow places and several low places to duck under. That said, however, I recommend anyone who can visit this natural wonder.

Timpanogos NM (TNM) is a cave in a fault on the side of a canyon near Provo UT. The cave alone is worth the visit...it is unique and rugged and requires some crawling and squeezing. It is unlike any other cave or cavern I have visited. The views from the cave mouth across the canyon are also spectacular. Reservations are required and limited and should be made well in advance.It is the climb to the TNM cave that is the challenge. It is at altitude and the climb requires another 1,000 feet ascension on a path that is never level, but keeps increasing in slope. Bluntly, not all visitors will make the climb. Every bit of extra weight and every bit of lack of conditioning will take a toll during the climb. Twice, I almost turned back, but I looked at my wife and told myself that if she is willing to have a heart attack getting up to the NM, then so was I. I felt that the climb in itself was an achievement. Knowing now what I knew before I began the climb makes me wonder if I would do it again.But I did it once and am very pleased that I made the climb and visited the cave. It is a gem that is worth the price.
