If you are looking for a quick snack stop by the Gifford Homestead. The six of us bought our own mini pies that were fresh baked and still warm. Families will find lots of other scrumptious snack choices.

It's an old home, small, used for a museum and a store, and didn't make much of an impression. We thought the prices in the store were on the high side.

We had driven as far as we could in the Capitol Reef N.P. - just beautiful and awesome scenery. Stopped by this store on the way out to purchase 1 small pie. The strawberry-rhubarb pie was perfect, delicious, great crust. Worth the $6. We stopped in on their last day for the store season so felt lucky. Other trinkets - some old and some new - available for purchase. Didn't take the time to fully explore the grounds. Saw numerous healthy looking mule deer on the grounds. Great place to sit quietly and enjoy the solitude and peace. Again, we visited end of their season so the crowds were less.

Basically a store and place to sell trinkets. Didn't really see any "homestead" items but there isn't a cost to enter to if you're driving through stop but don't expect much.

A tiny piece of pioneer history. The house itself seems to have been modernised beyond recognition from the early photographs, but it is still rustic living by anyone's standards. Some historic pieces give the homestead some context such as the homemade chair. The pies are worth stopping by this place early. Our strawberry and rhubarb pie was still warm from the oven and absolutely delicious. Yum yum.....

Nice stop along the scenic drive for a taste of ice cream under a shade tree. Keep a close eye out for the deer over your shoulder because you are not to feed them. Believe me, there are plenty walking around wild! If you go to the end of the loop, your looking at a gravel road so be ready for a dust bath. Good turn around spot at the end of pavement and some nice quite photo ops.

Make sure you stop off here for some fresh homemade pies. This is a great stopping off point after you have visited the park, they have a nice place to sit outside and eat your pie.

The Gifford Homestead is close to the park's visitors center. It is a virtual oasis, and the small house near the barn houses a gift shop and a place to get such tasty treats as delicious small pies and ice cream. There was probably more than just that, but we had read about the pies and wanted to see if they were all that good. Well, they were!

Gifford Homestead is one of the reasons this area is so charming, inviting and peaceful. You can walk around the house, learn about the history of the place, grab a pie, a cinnamon roll, a scone or a homemade ice cream and some coffee or tea and sit outside in the shady garden (and watch the mule deer eat apples) or chose from a wide variety of salsas, honey, preserves, jam, fruit butter, sweets and handmade quilts, toys and kitchenware to bring back for yourself or your family and friends. We stayed at the nearby campsite for two nights and came over to Gifford's at least four times and it was absolutely worth it!

We purchased a few things here but just seeing how the family lived was interesting. The sleeping arrangements were even more interesting. As others have reported, the pie is fabulous. We tried the Apple, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Mixed Berry. The final votes came in as 1, 1 and 2 respectively, so I do not believe you can pick a loser.

You must see the Gifford Homestead if you are in that area. It's quaint and old fashioned, not to mention historical. I purchased a couple of items there. They are known for their pies! A sweet little gem that makes you feel right at home!

Cute little house. Not much to see, but they sell fresh scones, breads and jams. And let's not forget the ice cream, try the raspberry! There are picnic tables and an orchard where you can pick fruit so it's worth stopping.

On our way from Arches NP to Bryce Canyon, we chose to depart from the faster route via I70 to pass through Capitol Reef NP. What an awesome scenary all along US 24 & 12! Gifford Homestead was the perfect reststop along the way. A nice change from the hiking. we loved the shop, ice cream, pies - and most of all, the pick your own apricots (other fruits available depending on season). If you have a few hours to spare - this is the way to go!

There are antiques to see which would be good for young families who have not been exposed to these items. There are also homemade goods to purchase and homemade food items. We took home a rhubarb/strawberry pie. Small and pricey but very yummy. I would buy one again. Lots of tasty treats. You can buy a small ice cream to eat with a small wooden spoon for a dollar.
