This is a great little place, in an out of the way location. We had the absolute best coffee and delicious cinnamon bun. Randy, the owner and farmer, was a delight. There was another somewhat comparable market close.....don't go there.....make sure you go to the Mesa Farm Market! It was one of our best experiences during our entire 2 week trip. And, it was the best coffee!!!!
It wouldn't be hard to miss & we weren't even looking for it but sure glad we found it. Fresh organic greens, goat cheese, goat yogurt smoothie, bread straight out of an outdoor brick oven baked by a Dr. on sabbatical, followed by brick oven cinnamon rolls, a working border collie herding goats, a tour of a cheese cave. What more can I say? An afternoon well spent. Nice conversation with a young lady biking across the US. Just the bread would have made it worth the visit. We got so much more.
I had read about this market while researching roadside attractions to be found along our drive from Las Vegas to Yellowstone. It is a small enterprise which comes up quickly along Route 24 in Caineville, Utah. Do yourself a flavor and stop in. The owners are personable and their organic offerings are mouth-watering. Reasonable prices seem to be the norm here.We would have purchased some of their cheese, but lacked refrigeration. Instead, they made me an apricot-peach smoothie with goats milk, yogurt, honey and some apple. Wow! My wife opted to try a muffin made from coconut flour and an abundance of eggs. She loved it.There's not much ambiance to be found here except for the friendliness of the owners/bakers. The stove they use is a sight to behold. Stop in and give them a try.
Very personable proprietor and THE best apples and stone-baked bread you'll ever taste. Wish we could find such produce and bread in our local area!
From the outside it may not look like much but treat yourself and stop in and check it out. Down home friendly people run this place. Coffee was freshly ground and brewed to order - no sitting on the burner coffee here - delightful. Fresh goat's milk feta cheese made there. Delicious cinnamon rolls. In season fresh veggies - tomatoes, cucumbers, basil etc... This place supplies fresh veggies and cheese to some Torrey restaurants as well. It is a nice surprise for visitors and wish I was more local to enjoy their goods on a regular basis.
We stopped here whilst driving towards Torrey on Highway 24, as it was a "do not miss" recommendation in our Lonely Planet guide book.I am so glad we did!!It is a tiny place (blink and you'll miss it), which serves home-made bread, cheese, cinnamon rolls etc.It is all made on the farm, the guys there were interested in how a couple of Brits ended up there and spent a while chatting to us about our travels. The food was AMAZING!! I am not a fan of goats cheese normally but this converted me - definitely try the cheese platter, it had 3 types of cheese, home-made bread and greenery from the farm. Beautiful tasting simple food. The home-made lemonade was pretty good too!!If you are passing the area make sure to stop here, it is so worth it.
From fresh salad greens and homemade bread to feta cheese, Mesa Farm Market provides the best of farm fresh goodies. We enjoy their wonderful produce ever week at the Farmer's Market in Torrey.
We visited Mesa Farm Market after a ranger at Escalante Park told us that this was a must-see stop. The Mesa Farm Market is a small market on a small organic farm. This is about a twenty minute drive from the Capitol Reef National Park Visitor's Center. We had the most amazing apricot smoothies made with goat's milk yogurt. This might sound strange, but we learned that goat's mike yogurt and cheese does not have to taste like goat. The market has an assortment of items, including baked goods. But the highlight of the market was talking with the woman that runs the market and the guy that owns and runs the farm. He came in the field to take a break and we had a fun, informative conversation about goats and sustainable/organic farming and local and national politics.
So here's a man who is truly living a dream. We visited his place in the off season, and in good Western tradition, he took over half an hour out of his subsistence life for a chat about his ideals and his farming innovations and his life. Here's a fellow raised in a farming family who didn't have a lot of money, so he bought land in 'the baddest of the badlands'. You can't really get what's going on unless you've driven through this country. You have to be insane, or inspired by God or a genius or something to try to do what he is doing. This is DESERT. And not the nice smoothy, sandy desert, but half mile dead drop off a cliff desert. If someone told me there wasn't a blade of grass within 40 miles of his farm, I'd believe it. But he has created this oasis there with his bare hands. You gotta check out this guy. See his Web site at www.mesafarmmarket.com.
I think I found an entry about Mesa Farm, about 1/2 hour from Capital Reef in Torrey, and decided to go a couple of weeks ago. It was worth the trip to the slate grey landscape that looked like you were on the moon, and the fresh organic salad & baked bread with fresh pesto that was Over the Moon. Sun brewed iced tea with fresh glazed cinnamon buns out of the outdoor oven topped off an experience rarely found! Terrific! Sustainable living is the goal at mesa Farm as well!
