On the National Register of Historic Places, this former Blacksmith & Wagon Repair Shop dating back to 1899 is a true glimpse in to the past. Still, almost just as it was, when Frank Quasdorf, the last Blacksmith in Dows, IA moved on, this building is crammed with the implements and history of a bygone day. Forge, Bellows, Horseshoes, Wagon, old bottles, tins, what have you....Admission is free. Donations are accepted. Be sure you sign the guest book.ALSO,ACROSS THE STREET is the Burlington Cedar Rapids and Northern Passenger Depot that now houses the Iowa Welcome Center. It is ALSO on the National Register of Historic Places. Crammed full of historical memorabilia from the town and railroad, along with tracts and booklets of tourist information for the state of Iowa and nearby surrounding locales.At the BACK of the Museum is a historical park that includes an authentic little prairie house donated by one of the townspeople whose ancestors lived in it. The town gratefully accepted the donation and moved it to display. Along with a one room schoolhouse situated within walking distance.The town celebrates SWEET CORN DAYS the first weekend in August and everyone is invited!! ALL the Sweet corn you can eat-FREE! Other foods and items are available as well, to purchase.
