This is a great hike, particularly in the fall when you can enjoy the gorgeous colors. The trail is rugged in places and if you're up for a challenge, it's perfect for a trail run. It offers varied and beautiful views of the lake and woods. The falls are pretty and are an easy and scenic place for a short rest. Some of the trails aren't marked well in places, so look closely at the maps posted at some points throughout the trail. This was our second time hiking this trail and doubt it will be our last!

Bass Lake Trail is off of Echo Trail in Ely, MN. If you hike this trail, it will take you to Little Dry Lake, Dry Lake, and Bass Lake. It is a nice rugged walking trail with a few climbing hills. At the end of one of the trails, you can step into a small waterfall and sit on the rocks edge leading into a lake.

We hiked the trail to Dry Lake Falls. It may be challenging for some but we really enjoyed it. It's a beautiful hike with an amazing view of Bass Lake from up high! The falls are very pretty :)

Looking for a great short hike, the BassLake, Dry Falls hike is one of the best. Scenic overviews, a beautiful falls that can be soaked in, and a slightly strenuous uphill hike over the ridge. this is a beauty, and if you need a bit more after getting to the falls you can extend to the Dry Lake loop, a bit more challenging due to loose rock, but a nice extension to make a nice 1/2 day loop

The trail was easy to follow. It starts with a bit of up and down that get tougher as the walk goes on. The scenery is very nice and you do get a bunch of nice views of the lake on the trail. Make sure u where good tennis shoes or a pair of hiking boots because the is a bit of loose gravel and it's steep enough that you'll have a little bit of trouble stopping. I would not recommend sandals. When you get to the falls there's a bridge over the stream and an area not to difficult if u feel the need to walk in the water. At this point we came back the way we went. One can walk around the entire lake and the lake next to it if you like. There's maps marking how far it is, restrooms and where you are. I felt it was worth the stop

This is a great family hike. Beautiful scenery. Make it all the way to the end and then jump in the lake for a refreshing swim. We go on this hike every visit to Ely.

We had a great short hike going on the dry falls route. We even came across some wild blueberries. Would def. recommend making time for this route.

Great trails! Nice views! Bit rocky at some parts which made it hard to look up and enjoy the views. Waterfalls were lovely.

They came to the resort and gave fishing tips that helped a lot. Give guided fishing trips w/ shore lunch.

We took the dry lake trail, about 4 miles. It was a very diverse trail. We found lots of wild strawberries, and lots of Mosquitos! We tried hiking a few trails closer to the boundary waters and found them to be too overgrown and wet. This trail was mostly dry even after lots of rain.

There is an easy <1 mile hike out to the falls. It’s not an exciting hike; there isn’t much to see and it gets a little boring, but the falls are worth it. There are changing areas and a spot to cross the falls at the top. The rock face along the lake is quite steep, so if you have younger children with you, it can be a challenge to get down to the lake. It’s a little easier on the way back up. There is a natural pool in the middle of the falls. Fun to relax in. We saw a few eagles and osprey while we were here.

Another great hike for the family. We knew to expect the views and the waterfall and Marie at Northern Lights Lodge told us to watch for blueberries. We found them and enjoyed every single one!

Took the family out for a short winter hike. We loved it and want to come back and do the entire trail in the summer.

There are actually a number of lakes and trails accessible from this trailhead. Some of the trails afford uniquely high and wide views. You can tailor your hike to your liking: less than an hour or most of the day or anywhere in between. The falls are definitely worth checking out: not big, but pretty. In winter, you can ski or snowshoe in here, too.

We opted to take this trail to stretch our legs after 4 days in the car. Hoped to see the lake more than the 4 or 5 times we caught sight of it. Went all the way around the lake and the trail was fairly obvious but for a few spots. After 4+ miles we reached the waterfalls - swimming hold and realized that rather than going around to the right we should have gone left toward Dry Lake to the falls and no further. It's ok if you just want to hike through the woods.
