After visiting the Buddy Holly Center, we went to his nearby final resting place. It is a must for Buddy Holly fans. The more you know about Buddy Holly, either through your own experiences and memories, or by reading the vast amount of information online about his career and tragic death, the more it will mean to you to stand with your own feet at his graveside.He is buried between his parents. You will see many guitar picks and other tokens left on his gravestone. There is a story about the angel in the cemetery, which you can easily find through an internet search. You can also find information about the cemetery being haunted.

Ok, I have family members who are here and Buddy Holly is around the corner. Nice quiet and well-maintained cemetary.

This cemetery is quite old and rather hard to find without a map or GPS. But oddly enough once you locate and see the famed, but very modest, Buddy Holly grave marker there is really much, much more to savor by walking or driving the historic, park-like grounds. Cowboy Henry Jenkins was the first to establish permanent residency here in 1892 and the massive grounds has now grown to be the third largest in the State of Texas with 60K burials. Various sections of grave sites indicate unknowns as well as many unmarked where various minorities and the poor were buried. Others are subdivided by ethnicity and faith and definitely by affluence. Strangely on the east side of the grounds and through the back gates, is an old abandoned train trestle in a canyon called Hells Gate. Lots of stories embellish what happened in that area including hangings, satanic sacrifices and worship and ghosts that remain. Even past that is a canyon enhanced with a system of small lakes and picnic grounds. Not far away are several other local attractions which are quite interesting. One being a Wind Energy museum, which sounds weird but is quite impressive. A huge Bayler Agriculture Museum is just down the road from this as well containing tons of farm equipment, tractors etc.. When you are finished with all that just drive another mile or so to the Amusement Park (Joyland) and then to the Prairie Dog Village to watch the funny animals go through their entertainment routines.

The Cemetery is well maintained. We enjoy driving around and looking at all the headstones and the crypts. Buddy Holly's resting place is a site to see. It is unpretencious and plain but worth a trip to see.

Always a profound experience.Put flowers on parents graves and visited graves of other family and friends.

It always seems odd to review a burial site - maybe even a bit morbid. Having said that, this site is easily accessible once you find this cemetery (which our GPS did not want to do but our Google maps did very well). The gravestone is quite modest. I was glad to see that the family has made it accessible and fans seem to have been respectful (as chunks aren't missing). Leave a guitar pick or penny for reverence.

I was privileged to visit the Buddy Holly grave site early in the morning. There was no-one else around, and it was incredibly peaceful. This is a must-visit for Buddy Holly fans. It is easy to find down a lane to the right immediately after you enter Lubbock Cemetery via East 31st Street. The grave/stone is so unpretentious and simple, and a very special place to spend a few respectful minutes.

I had to visit Buddy Holly's gravesite before leaving town. Hidden away off the road and without much fanfare...there it was. I'm glad I did.

Make sure to bring a guitar pick to place on the grave. Also when trying to find this place use 31st Street and Teak Ave on your phones gps to find it. My Garmin never could find it. My iphone brought me right to it once someone have me the correct intersection.

Attended a graveside service there last week. It's a peaceful place with a few trees (which aren't that common in west Texas). If you're going there to see the Buddy Holly gravesite, it's easy to find-just turn right the first chance you get. You'll see the visitor building; and the Buddy Holly headstone will be on your left about halfway between you and that building.

This is where Buddy Holly the rock and roll icon is buried. It also has the oldest burials for the city of Lubbock.

Lubbock's oldest cemetery whose most famous resident is rock 'n roll pioneer, Buddy Holly. Take the first road to the right after entering the cemetery and look for the sign pointing to his grave site.

Just like the crash site outside Clear Lake, it is a place to reflect and pay respect to Buddy's legacy. leave a memento, a coin or a guitar pick. But don't try to chip away a piece of the headstone.

My mom was laid to rest here in 2007 and it always looks so peaceful.

I only go when a loved one is burried. This is not my idea of a good time. Go to Buddy Holley center is you are interested in his life not much here.
