Skyline Drive is an awesome drive through the mountains. Each season offers its own beautiful scenery! Tthe animals which can be seen in their natural habitat is fascinating. The myraid trails and stopping areas along the drive offer mountain scenery and views everyone will enjoy. There are even several trails which lead to waterfalls! A nice relaxing ride through the mountains!
Beautiful foliage in the fall, great scenery, smooth drive, a lot of pictures points a very cool place to visit. We have a wonderful time.
I can only imagine what this looks like it fall, spring, or summer. We went in winter so there were few people in the park. The views were spectacular and it was just a cool place to visit.
beautiful scenery, gentle drive, lots of view points..Activities to choose enroute for kids to break the journey, we did pony trekking.
Beautiful foliage in the Fall.... However, I have been on many beautiful drives and this was lovely and well worth the drive but a one and done for me do to the price. $15. for the car and $8. per person... Coastal drives along California, Vancouver to Whistler, Gold Coast of Australia, and New England, through Kentucky and the Southwest all spectacular and free....There are many overlooks and opportunities for great photographs and it was worth the experience but I'll hold off next time and just rejoin the Blue Ridge Parkway at the entrance....
I liked how u could drive at your leisure and did not feel like you had to rush the whole drive.Plus there were many places you could stop and get out and take pictures.
Very pretty drive along the mountains. It did start to seem a little the same after a while. There were a lot of hiking trails we would have liked to try, but it was a little cold when we were there.
The Park was not far from where we were staying. We visited parts of two days. The drive was quite scenic. Saw lots of deer. With no leaves on the trees the views were continual. Does not compare to the coast of Maine or the Sothwest.
beautiful scenery, would like to see it in the fall or spring. great alternative to highway drivingnothing negative to say
The view is amazing, driving through the area is just breath taking. All of the people we met up there were so nice and polite. I can not wait to go back, we stayed at the nicest hotel on sky line drive. No tvs, just radio and it only had a few channels. Very romantic place, the food there was amazing
This is now the third time we've been through the Skyline Drive, having now seen it during 3 seasons. Winter rates are now $10 per car, good for 7 days. Enjoy the views over the Shenandoah River, and if you do not wish to drive the entire length of the park, there are 3 places to leave the Skyline Drive, although I'd highly recommend seeing the whole drive. Wonderful for naturalists and historians: great places to hike, picnic and enjoy the serenity.
When planning a trip to Skyline Drive make sure you are committing significant time to enjoy the drive and make frequent stops to enjoy the scenery. There are a number of quaint stores and food service areas to enjoy. There are also simple rustic motels to stay at....We decided to hike to a waterfall which was a long hike but beautiful. This trip is designed to go slow, take it easy, don't rush, and make no other plans. A two day trip is preferable to enjoy and be mindful of the gorgeous scenery. Do you want an opportunity to turn the radio off and talk to your kids? Then plan this trip. Romantic trip to reconnect with your lover? Then go.....
First visited Shenandoah in July and it was absolutely stunning. I've visited many parks but there was something especially breathtaking about the scenery. You can start Skyline Drive at the north entrance at Front Royal or at the three other entrances going south. No matter where you start you are bound to see some amazing views (and possible wild life). Most of my visits have been to the south end of the drive and there are many great trails (easy to more advanced) that you can do. The trails are well-maintained and dog friendly! If you plan to visit in the later months of the fall season, be prepared for potential foggy days. The trails are still beautiful but the long distance views may be limited.
There was only 11 miles open on the day that we went due to a fresh snow fall. We decided that it was worth it! It was trully a winter wonderland. We went for a hike to Stony Man Point. The views took my breath away! It wasn't too crowded. We ate at a lodge, I forget the name. Food was actually pretty good, and so was the wine! :)
Very pretty in snow. Rooms comfortable. This is a rustic resort, but staff is very attentive. Awesome TG dinner at the Skyland Lodge.
