Very traditional with choir & pastors in period dress. Excellent choice of Christmas songs. Lovely tradtional candlelight service with communion. Welcoming, friendly folks. A perfect way to celebrate Christ's birth. We attended the earlier 7:30 service -- getting too old to stay up for midnight services. Only dislike was finding parking!!
that still has an active congregation and events. well worth the trip to visit there and check out the cemetary graves.
I've attended this church many times. It is a lovely colonial setting with friendly parishioners. Be sure to check out the cemetery in back where they have the tomb of the unknown Revolutionary soldier. Christmas Eve service is very beautiful.
My wife and I visited the Old Presbyterian Meeting House while taking a guided tour of Old Town Alexandria. Founded in 1772, the Old Presbyterian Meeting House is an historic and vibrant congregation in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. It is still open for church services.
This is an active church which dates from Colonial times. Members of the church dress in period clothes for special events and give tours and tell about the church. It is also a really caring group of people.
We were taken on a ghost tour to this place. I have never heard of this place and the famous colonial history that is here. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Revolutionary War is here, and so is George Wahington's doctor. I even managed to catch an orb in a couple pictures. Take a ghost tour and come here at night.
I went here with a group of historic house docents, and we all really enjoyed our time here! Don is a fountain of knowledge about the church, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone, especially if you're interested in history, graveyards, churches, or all of the above!
Amazing history - don't miss this site! I didn't visit the church, but wandered the grounds, and was taken aback by the history here.
Geocaching brought us to this spot and it was fascinating to see all the old graves, several of them Scots. Really interesting, worth a visit.
I walk through this mini-cemetery often on my to and from church and the nearby Safeway. I always feel like I'm walking through history. Here is where George Washington delivered our first national prayer. Here is where his physician and others of the Revolutionary War period were buried and remembered. But what makes this so unique is the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War soldier. Until I walked onto this property for the first time four years ago, I had no idea such a tomb even existed. American are all aware of the tombs of the unknowns at Arlington Cemetery, but few know about this tomb. It's worth a moment to stop by to remember those who died to make us free...for the first time. Without them, we would not become a free and independent country.
with just average seating and sound but for a small group - a capella singers or chamber quite ok. Larger events might be overwhelming in terms of "bounce" -
The burial grounds behind the Meeting House was totally interesting as we walked around at our leisure. The variety of stones, including the "table" type, which we had not seen before, and of course, the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary Soldier, were well worth seeing. We were not able to get inside the Meeting House, but the large windows at ground level allowed us to look inside at the well-maintained interior.
This old church has retained it's colonial charm. In it's history, it has often been in the forefront of social change. The cemetery has many old graves including the one of the unknown Revolutionary War soldier.
This is a church with a history reaching back to pre-Revolutionary Alexandria, VA. While not the original structure, the sanctuary is elegant and historic in its own right. Its burial ground contains the remains of the “unknown soldier” of the American Revolution. One of the several memorial services for Geo. Washington was held here.
I was in town over Easter and went to church with my family. The Old Presbyterian Meeting House is a beautiful, historical church in Old Towne. I could not help but consider the history of the church, while also considering the excellent message delivered by the pastor that Sunday morning. This was my second visit to this church, and while smaller than my home church, the members, staff, and visitors were all friendly, welcoming and happy to greet a visitor. Out of town on Sunday? Why not visit a neighborhood church service? At the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, combine history and faith on your visit. Highly recommend a visit for Sunday service!
