There really isnt much more to say other than the fact that the wines here are mediocre at best. Brought my girlfriend here on Valentines day, and while things were busy and we were treated with respect, the same can't be said for everyone. Two parties who came for lunch left due to not receiving any help. As they walked out our pourer was completely indifferent as she watched them leave, and her entire presentation was rehearsed and ungenuine. The glasses also had a mildewy smell. There isn't much else around here, but please take the drive to Cave Ridge instead - we are enjoying a fabulous glass of wine here in a much friendlier welcoming atmosphere.

After hearing such great reviews of North Mountain, I was excited to finally visit. When we arrived for a tasting, it was busy, but not overly crowded. It was Valentine's Day... Which is the one excuse that I will give for the staff. The wines were okay, and I'm sure the view would have been beautiful on a spring or summer day, but there was no excuse for the poor customer service. It was obvious the staff and management were unprepared for the Valentine's Day crowd. They were rude to customers, the cups smelled, and the wine pourers were gossiping in front of the customers. We were not the only customers that left displeased. One group walked out, and the staff said "oh well" with an attitude that suggested they didn't care for their customers anyway. What a let-down.

My family visited North Mountain on a frigid January day. It was a beautiful drive to the vineyard. Our tasting hostess Holly was extremely knowledgable about the wines and enthusiastic. When you first walk in, you wonder if there is a place to sit indoors and then you round the corner and find a quaint tasting room with beautiful views and a nice, warm fire. There was even a kitty cat curled up in a chair by the fire. We will most likely return in the spring or summer with friends as we preferred the white wines. The tasting fee is reasonable--we did the full tasting with the reserve wines.

Really nice winery. The people were extremely nice and there was a great and cheerful atmosphere in the tasting room. They're dog friendly and allowed our dog in the tasting room too. They also have a beautiful outdoor area with picnic tables and awesome scenery. The tasting room was a little small, so we did go outside to have some wine and snacks even though it was a cold day. Some of the wine was sweeter than I personally care for, but they had a great selection, extremely reasonable prices and awesome people. Highly recommend this as a stop if you're in the area.

Very relaxing, with lots of places to sip wine and either purchase snacks, or bring your own picnic basket. Then take a stroll around the grounds before getting back into your car.

The wine is good, the tasting room is nice, and our host was excellent and very knowledgeable of the wine and how it's made. Only drawback on our visit was they only had one person working, and the place was very busy.

My daughter and her family recently moved to Tom's Brook, VA. My husband and I drove up from Florida to help with the settling in. North Mountain Vineyards is about 5 minutes from her house so one Sunday we took the afternoon off and went to the vineyards. It is a lovely spot. Plenty of places to picnic if you like. After our tasting we chose to order the bread and a container of goat cheese with our bottle of wine and sat on the very large deck overlooking the property. Some of the guests had dogs (we are dog people ourselves) and our 22 month old grandson really enjoyed the sniffing and curiosity of the dogs. The owners have dogs as well so I would say this is a very dog friendly place. We had a lovely time and will probably return on future trips. The wines we tasted were very good and we brought some home. Also the young man and woman that handled our tasting were very knowledgeable and personable.

Four and a half rating if half's were possible! We stopped here as we were heading for Strasburg, VA and we knew nothing about the winery before we got there, and what a great find it was. We'd highly recommend it. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, John the winemaker stopped to talk to us for a while as well, lovely guy. The wines were tasty and the back deck was really lovely with great views. There was a band playing and snacks to purchase to go with your wine if you wanted. We did the $8 tasting, which was a taste of everything on the list. About 15 wines in total. Our tasting guide was very knowledgable and friendly. The only reason we aren't giving a 5 rating though is because during the tasting we got moved down the bar constantly and virtually off the end by the time we were on the last couple of wines. The tasting space really is too small. We started on the left hand side and the someone wanted to buy some wine so we were moved down, then some other tasters came and we were moved down, then more came and we were moved yet again. It slightly ruined the experience, even if every.one was very polite about it and apologetic. Still, don't let that put you off, it is well worth the visit. Be sure to stay and have a glass (or bottle) after the tasting, it's a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

This winery is very relaxing with lots of tables and informative staff. We did a tasting and it was quite good. The best part was that we stopped at Subway in Strasbourg and picnicked at tables under a tree. The whole family relaxed for a while.

North Mountain does it right. Nice atmosphere and good wines. You won't be disappointed. One of our favorites on the Shenandoah Valley.

We picked this winery at random from a list of wineries/vineyards in the area. We were staying in Winchester, and were just looking for something to do during the afternoon on a Saturday. We found out that this place had "Soup Saturday", and that we could go in and enjoy a standard tasting of their wines, and then sit in the back "dining room" and listen to live folk/acoustic music while eating Bavarian potato soup. ......Sounded like a good deal to us. We called and made reservations so we knew we'd definitely have a spot (recommended). The winery is located down in one of the many valleys. As you drive in, you get to drive through and around the actual fields of grape vines (very cool, especially when sometimes you don't even get to see where the vines grow). The main building is a huge, ornate "farm house" that has been retrofitted to make the wine and have a tasting room, entertaining room, and shop inside. Right when you walk in, the tasting counter/bar is in front of you. Two very nice "bar tenders" served us our tastings. A couple dogs were running through the place. The soup was being served in a back room that has large windows overlooking a big chunk of the vineyard. A middle-aged duet was playing acoustic music in the corner while we ate and drank. The whole atmosphere was unreal. While we were sitting there, the winemaker (of which there is only one at this place), walked right up and chatted with us for 15-20 minutes and invite us on a tour. After finishing our soup, we went on a tour of the wine-making operation downstairs with only 8 people total. The winemaker also wandered down into the barrel room while were down there, and even started to play his banjo and sing for us after someone noticed it was sitting open in its case in the corner. Really just an awesome and relaxing experience. The place couldn't have been any more friendly. We went back up to the entertaining room to get our things, and we ended up standing around a table with one of the owners and a bunch of local regulars, and got a ton of great recommendations for the rest of our stay in the area (which all ended up also being awesome!!!). Couldn't ask for a better stop on our trip.

Went here with my husband for their winter solstice celebration. During our tasting we had a very nice girl named Kelly. We told her that we were newlyweds and she treated us bottle of wine. Which we felt was above and beyond. There wines were also really good and affordable. The atmosphere of the winery was really welcoming and the location was quite beautiful. Plus there is no fee for there wine tasting. I would go back there anytime.

Great wines and friendly atmosphere. Affordably priced, too! Relaxing location. Too bad we couldn't stay for their festival the next day.

My favorite winery in VA so far (only been to five). Though close (one hour) to Northern VA it felt off-the-beaten path, and the winery had a chateau-like feel, with a nice, wood deck on which to sip wine a observe the greenery and birds. The regular wine-tasting list was free for my wife and me (maybe because it was our 22nd anniversary), and they let us eat our own cheese, crackers and chutney on the deck. As for the wine itself, probably better than the average VA wine, but wine always tastes better when you're feeling relaxed.
