Stayed August 21-23. First off about the lodging. My wife and I stayed in the Overlook Condos. We found the room to be more than adequate for price. If you find a better room over looking a nice golf course at a better price please let me know. Do not be wary of some reviews, at least of the condos, I have not stayed in the cabins. The staff was very casual, accommodating and professional. Well pleased with ALL staff from the golf pro Bo Goins to the restaurant hostess. Our waitress was a very nice young lady, great chef and bartenders as well. Great service all the way around. Booking over the phone was very easy as well. Staff was informative, helpful and honestly addressed the negative reviews I mentioned from Tripadvisor. NOW, THE GOLF. I have played over 100 courses (top dollar resorts to my local muni) and Olde Mill ranks way up on my list of great courses. Cannot wait to go back, go play Olde Mill!C. Smith
Third time back.Magnificent views on just about every hole. Bring your best sand wedge, your camera and plenty of balls as you can get into some precarious spots. Great course.
We made the 2 hour drive from Roanoke to play golf and ended up spending the day. The course is fantastic, staff is excellent, and the scenery is beautiful. We stayed for dinner which was wonderful. Our waitress was not sure of some answers (size of steak, etc) but quickly returned to our table. They have a varied menu including small plates (vegatable risotto is phenomonal), salads, steaks, etc. Amazing that this gem is so close to us, yet we had never made the trip. We returned home via the parkway which rounded out the day. Parkway is easily accessible via Route 58 which is under construction to update/enlarge. We hope to come back often. We are looking to return in the fall when we expect the changing leaves to be breathtaking!
Olde Mill is a 2 hours plus drive but I wonder why we don't make the trip more often. We got 36 holes in and I can't wait to come back. The greens were fast and true. All in all the course was prettier than I remember it. For those of you that have not played Olde Mill...GO! It will exceed your expectations.
Wonderful course and in immaculate shape. first rate accommodations and good food as well. Good value on packages....$40 for all day with a cart. Play the gold tees and beware the putts.
Our foursome played here last week and had two and one half rounds of great golf. The half round was a nine hole round that we impromptu scheduled after our eighteen. The pro shop said that we could continue playing for FREE. That was unexpected and a fantastic deal. Thanks for the perk and for having your course in excellent condition.
Our group stayed in two 4-bedroom Fairway Lane Cottages for the weekend. Although they were fairly clean, there were several areas in both cottages badly in need of TLC. The cottages were identical, each with 4 bedrooms and a full bath for each bedroom. Neither cottage had screens on any of the windows, which prevented us from opening them to enjoy the cool fall breeze. One of the toilets broke on the first day, but maintenance promptly arrived to fix it. There was an adequate supply of dishes, glasses and utensils, but nothing in the way of serving dishes. The appliances were old, and there was no ice maker in the freezer. Fresh towels were delivered to us daily, but there was no actual maid service. There are no TV's in the bedrooms, just one in the main "great room". With a little TLC, both indoors and out, these cottages could be really nice. On a positive note, however, the bedrooms were large, each with 2 double beds. There was a front porch with rocking chairs and a back deck. $299 plus tax per night is a little high for the quality received, but probably still cheaper than 4 separate motel rooms. I would like to visit the area again, but would definitely stay in the newer Overlook Condominiums.
I was part of a group of 16 that spent the weekend at this wonderful spot. The golf course is immaculate - bring your "A" game. The restaurant has excellent food at reasonable prices. The staff are all friendly and outgoing. The cabins are spacious and comfortable. It's just a great place for a weekend golf trip.
This is one of my favorite golf courses in VA; also one of the toughest IMO. There seems to be water in play on almost every hole. It is just beautiful and the greens are perfect. # 3 reminds you of the finishing hole at Bayhill or Sawgrass. How brave are you????? It's definatly a shot makers course and a must play for any serious golfer.
The Olde Mill is one of my favorite golf courses in Southwest VA. The course is full of natural beauty and also natural challenges from expansive water and trees. I never needed to roll the ball in the fair way which shows how nice the course is kept. I strongly recomend this course for anyone who whants to relax with friends for a round of the greatest game on Earth.
We (four male golfers) stayed late in the season November 2012, on a golf stay and play package. There was a mix up in our package details, but were more than compensated for their mistake. The condo we stayed in (think it was room 401) was perfect. It overlooked the 18th green. Two large bedrooms with two queen beds in each. Seperate washrooms for each bedroom. Huge tv with I think was direct tv. WiFi was very fast and easy to connect to. Golf course was excellant, and being that time of the year not busy at all. I was surprised to see how nice of shape the course was in, that late in the year. It must be just beautiful in the summer months. Lots of elevation changes and gorgeous scenery. We would return again, but try to stay for a longer period. This was just a one night stop over on a trip farther south. We ate at the restaurant on site, and all of us were more than happy with the service and meal.We found all the staff to be very friendly.
We played on our way down to Myrtle Beach and it turned out to be the best course we played on the whole trip. It was a little wet, but the course held up very well. The views were amazing and the level changes were breathtaking, especially for a flatlander like me. We will definitely stop here on the way down to Myrtle next year. A+++ rating for the course.
The website misleads the quality of lodging actually offered to those booking a stay here. We were lead to believe that we were staying in the new condos featured on the website. Instead our party was booked in rundown buildings reminiscent of a cheap motel. From the outside, the window frames and deck wood is rotting. Inside is a mix of modern and outdated fixtures. The build quality is horrible. The walls are painted poorly with drywall showing through the shody one coat job, the paint is flaking off the ceiling in every room. Holes in drywall are not patched, the plumbing in some of the bathrooms are falling off the wall/tub. Toilets are crooked and wobbly. The shower/tubs in all rooms were slimy, showing that they are not cleaned well and clogs not fixed. A cabinet door actually fell off in the middle of the night during our stay. There was not enough plates, silverware, glassware, and pots/pans to accomidate our party. We actually found a hair ball from the tub tossed into the toilet from the housekeeping staff when we first entered the unit and dirty glasses in the cabinet. The restaurant features a "chef" but the quality of food was nothing special, bordering on poor. Food prices were way higher for the poor quality served. The waitstaff was not knowledgeable at all and didn't know that my meal was not what I ordered and then questioned the fact that it was wrong. The golf course seemed nice and it is clear that it is where they spend all of their money. Go for the day, play a round and have a drink. Do not waste your time staying or eating at this poorly managed "resort". They represent the classic "Bait and Switch".
Thankfully we stayed only 1 night but during that short time, the hotel staff (really the golf staff) TWICE gave our room key to other people although they knew the room was rented and occupied. The first time, 4 people came into our room and looked around as we were at dinner and took something off the kitchen table. The second time, I found the person at the door. The hotel has little focus on customer safety and comfort. The staff is not available from late afternoon til morning so if you have issue - they ignore it even if they caused it. The room was old, dumpy and smelly. This place is run like a youth hostel or frat house - it has few amenities and a staff that cares little about making your stay pleasant and safe. Think twice before staying at Olde Mill. We will not return.
Recently renovated course off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
