The experience here at Haight Brown is wonderful...Upon arriving you see a beautiful German/Bavarian buildling, open the doors and you go up the stairs to the tasting room. Each time I go I do a full wine tasting and I add on the chocolate/cheese pairing. I enjoy taking new people to Haight Brown because they enjoy the tasting with the pairings too. My favorite wine is the Honey Nut Apple and the Toasty Apple. Yesterday I brought another new visitor with me and she LOVED going. I try to stop in for a tasting a few times each year. I wish the winery was closer to where I live.
On a recent drive through the beautiful Connecticut countryside we decided to stop at the Haight-Brown Winery. Even though it was a snowy, cold day, the inside of the winery was quite nice and provided a good atmosphere for tasting. We tasted a total of 10 wines, a nice assortment of both reds and whites, and the gentleman helping us seemed quite knowledgeable about the product. We were impressed enough that we bought three bottles to be shipped to our home!I would definitely consider coming back especially when the weather is nice.
I had the 6 wine tasting. The two wines from CA grapes were pretty good, the wines from estate grapes were not that good. Tasting was okay, but the exact same words were quickly repeated for a given wine to each group at the bar, kind of a memorized script. Layout of the tasting area seemed a bit unusual. Went upstairs and there were three different areas. Would rate it a little below other CT winery visits, but I think there are new owners and it can take a couple years to get their own wine released.
I have visited a few vineyards in CT and this is one of my favorites. I did the wine and chocolate tasting which was very good. There was a great variety of wines to taste and the guy who assisted us was very knowledgeable and friendly. Nice patio, lots of products for sale. I would recommend this vineyard.
Haight-Brown is one of my favorite CT Wineries. It is relaxing to sit at the bar for a wine tasting. The chocolate and cheese plate adds to the fun of the tasting and an adventure each time trying new cheeses. This winery is such a favorite that I visit more then once a year. There are stairs to get to the wine bar tasting area.
Great shopping, tons of room to taste, great patio, good views, easy to get to, nice picnic spots. Having said that the staff was not up to par with there competitors. They had a help wanted sign on the door so that is a good sign.
Had a great evening visiting the vineyard with a group of friends for an evening of painting and wine. Funky, fun vineyard with very accomodating employees.
We didn't want to pay to sample wine Why would you pay to sample wine that you might not like (except for a couple) We did buy a single glass of wine each so we could enjoy the view outside Which overlooks the vineyard which was nice, but the dry white wine was tasteless
We stopped here for the tasting and ended up doing the full flight, which is 10 wines for $12 and you keep the glass. Your other option is 6 wines for $9. We figured they had enough uniqueness and variety to try them all. They have drys and semi-drys and a nice mix of reds and whites, as well as a couple apple dessert wines. All of the wines were fairly well done for what they were trying to be. The server was not overly friendly, but friendly enough and well informed. They also have a decent amount of space for tasting, which is nice to see, as if they get busy, they can fit a lot more people in. A nice touch was also that they have some padded bar stools, so you could even actually sit, if you wanted to, which you don't always see. All in all, we enjoyed the stop and the wines and would stop if in the area again.
When I go to a vineyard, the experience hinges on not only the wine, but the server, the conversation, the ambiance. The woman who poured our wine did just that, and nothing else. She didn't greet us, barely looked at us, went through the descriptions on auto pilot. We were not even there half hour she rushed us through so fast. Won't be back.
Wife and I decided to visit some of CT farm wineries, and I chose Haight-Brown as our starting point. Was there on a Friday (highly recommended) so not too crowded. Our server was knowledgable about our wines being tasted, and I liked the info on what cheese to serve with each. Servings were good size, and we were able to split the ones we didn't both select. Very nice bar area and outside seating area. A little pricier than others on the wine tour, but it was minimal, nothing to get upset about.
We went for a tasting off a groupon but didn't realize it didn't include weekends. They honored the face value. Which was nice of them. Very good wines tasting. They have outdoor seating in the vineyard to enjoy a bottle with food you brought.
We went there for a tasting and stayed over 2 hrs. The owner is straightforward and sarcastic in a good way! She really knows her wine though. We really enjoyed our time at the tasting bar with her!
Got there before 1pm which was great because it got crowded. The wine tasting bar was really nicely set up and our presentation was fun and relaxed, maybe we lucked out as it was the owners son who did the presentation. We loved the white wines much more than the reds but that may just be a matter of taste. Our groupon for four also provided a cheese tasting and we were given delicious goat and blue cheese. We upgraded and added some chocolate and everyone really loved the combinations. The building is really neat and after the tasting we sat out on the deck and enjoyed the bottle of wine overlooking the vineyard. We think it's worth the trip.
We were staying in the area and had a Groupon to use at this vineyard. We have been to several in CT and this one, to me, has the best wine. The service on the other hand was not the best I have ever had, though it was not terrible. Whenever I feel like a burden to my server I am immediately turned off. I felt a bit rushed and did not enjoy the tasting as much as I have at other vineyards. Granted we arrived an hour before closing, but it was still a full house, so I am not sure why things weren't better. Regardless, the wine was great and we ended up taking a bottle of the Picnic Red to the outdoor seating area to enjoy before we left. The grounds are beautiful and the vineyard is huge. Lots of photo opportunities. Overall, it was a nice time.
