the bellarmine museum of art

Located on the beautiful campus of Fairfield University, the Bellarmine Museum is housed in a magnificent Gothic revival mansion. (It's worth a visit to see the building in itself, with distant views of Long Island Sound.) The permanent collection focuses on early Greek sculpture, many pieces are plaster casts of sculpture from the Acropolis and other sites in and around Athens. There is also a rotating exhibit space. Currently on display is an exhibit entitled "In the Wake of the Butterfly: James Abbott McNeill Whistler and His Circle in Venice." A member of the Connecticut Art Trail (http://www.arttrail.org/index.htm) this museum can be visited along with several others in the area if you want to make a day of it "gallery hopping" as we did.
