So, how in the world can anyone give this place a 5 star review??? They must be friends of the owner is all I can say. The drive there was horrendous...I actually asked my friend if we were on the way to "Deliverance land". The wine was horrible and very expensive. I actually threw my glass out. Not to mention the wine selection was very small....maybe 5-6 wines. The "winery" was a building that looked like it was once a screened in porch but now had plastic for walls to keep out the cold. They had heaters but they were set on low and you had to wear your coat to be comfortable. They also had a dog. Sweet dog, however, the dog was allowed to lay on top of the tables where people would eventually be eating. This is the worst place I have ever been too. The place, the owner, the wine, the location was all pathetic! If you are going to drive to Jefferson County for a winery, please DO NOT waste your time with this place. I cannot stress just how awful this place was.......
This is one of our favorite places to go to unwind and relax. The music is great no matter what genre is playing. The owner always makes a point of talking to us and taking care of the big group that usually goes with us. The place is very quaint, not very big, not what I would call pretty, but it serves its purpose. We always have fun there.
I went to this winery and was very disappointed. We have been to a lot of wineries and this one doesn't even compare. Bad points- no views, expensive wine (they all taste like kool-aide), a large dog roaming all over sniffing on you, the owner is very rude and I believe he likes tasting his product a lot, and the inside where you sit is so very small you can count the tables. For the price he ask for his wine it just isn't worth it. Good points- I really can't think of any.
This place is terrible... I was mortified by the way the young man (I think the owners son) was abusive to his dog. If you visit wineries you know that people bring food which is going attract the interest of a dog. During my visit, there were children playing and eating, Gunner the dog accidentally bit a little girl (as far as I know the mom said she was ok). The guy ran screaming at the dog, grabbed him by the collar and dragged him across the grass all the while the dog yelping in what I'm sure was pain. I understand the dog should not bite but if there is a chance of it happening leave the dog in the house. The owner is not friendly, the road going to the place takes you through a neighborhood of what appears to be meth cookers, very small, no views of anything except dog abuse. I will never return and intend on spreading the word to all my fellow animal and winery lover friends on facebook and any other outlet I can find. AWEFULL PLACE
Jefferson County's only winery you can visit, enjoy a glass of wine, and listen to live music. The owners are wonderful. They have really poured their heart and soul into the place. I would highly recommend a visit on these cool summer nights. You will not be disappointed.
We live in St Charles and have to drive a little ways (35-40 minutes) so it keeps us from going as much as we would like to! The owners are incredible! Pricing of the wine is less than many of the larger wineries in Hermann or Augusta. Good music (go see Scottie Kemp when he is playing!), good wine, good service - totally worth the drive for us for a nice day trip. There are always going to be people that have bad experiences, but I can tell you we have NEVER seen either owner drunk and they are nothing but gracious and treat us as if we are guests in their backyard! And as far as Gunner the dog...yes he runs around and greets the guests. He is a sweet dog with a lot of personality and a huge part of the attraction of this quaint winery. Get out and give it a try1
If you want to get away from it all and the commercial business go to Persimmon Ridge Vineyards & Winery they have Great Music. Its low key and relaxing. You will feel like you are in someone's backyard enjoying the day with friends and family.
Good wine, good music, beautiful venue and close to home! We enjoyed our Friday evening trip to Persimmon Ridge Winery so much we will definitely be going back, and soon! The friendly and outgoing owners have a green thumb, a flair for ambiance, great taste in music and the gift of wine. You can bring your own picnic basket, drink their wine, listen to their music and let your cares melt away among their beautiful landscaping and gorgeous vines. Don't wait to discover this place for yourself another day, you will definitely thank me!
SMCCANLESS1----I don't know what your vendetta is about but there must be more to the story than your post...I have been to Persimmon Ridge many times including the Easter egg hunt.. We have always been treated with respect and I have never seen the owner drink at all .. Your description of the dog is as much an exaggeration as the rest of your post. You mentioned your three year old niece being yelled at....I really doubt that. Just another exaggeration.. A child does not belong at a place where liquor is served.
Love this winery! The people there are very friendly and wait on you as soon as you get there. The wine is very tasty.
I love visiting different wineries! I have been to this one several times, its 10 mins away from my house. When they first opened I was excited to have a winery so close by. However, each time I go the owner seems more drunk and ruder than the last time! Considering how expensive his bottles of wine are compared to other wineries (I dont think they sell a bottle for under $18), you would think he would be somewhat polite to his customers! But hes not. He even kicked us out of our own chair WE BROUGHT so his dog can sit in it. He YELLED at my 3 yr old nieces when they dropped a cracker and his dog ate it! His dog is very big and has a run of the place! He was also really rude to my husband, myself, and my parents this last time we went for the Easter egg hunt they had there (I wanted to give the winery one more chance thinking maybe he just had too much to drink the last time...must be a reoccurring thing tho bc he was even more drunk this time!). Will NOT be returning.
