One of my favorite downtowns in the Midwest I've ever visited. While I'm lower income, this main street looked like it would be ideal for most folks who live in Ann Arbor. If I made 20k more annually this would be heaven for me. Crazy Wisdom was a wonderful bookstore; Four Directions has an amazing array of gemstones, jewelry, fossils, and much more; and the comic store (wish I could remember the name) had an AMAZING collection of games downstairs. Combine that with all the clothing stores in the area. I almost bought a Pashmina scarf at the Tibetan/Nepalese store, and the more mainstream clothing stores had some wonderful more classy mainstream (as in, not hippie/hipster) styles.I wish I didn't only have an hour or two to spend in the downtown there, and if I worked at the University or some better job, this would be heaven for me. Absolutely adored this downtown!! Great indoor and outdoor presentation all around.
I like this part of down because it's loaded with great restaurants, shops and coffee houses and bars if that's you're thing. They're are so many different eating options and I love the amount of book stores in such a small place. But you have a lot of boutique shopping and if you can't find something you like you're probably a miserable person that should never leave the house! I said. I can't take it back... just try to have some fun while you're here.
Lots of fun bars & restaurants catering to alumni and older students at U of Michigan.Lots of new places opening and better than hanging out at the college dives closer to campus.
Great local culture on Main Street. High end dining, low end dining, and everything in between. Coffee? You bet! Tea, you bet. Books, nooks, novelties, strange and beautiful - all there. Art. Almost art. Never intended to be art. You'll find it there and what a magnificent place to observe people. Spend a day and enjoy the show.
Everything you could want is in this area. We had a great time walking around looking in the shoppes and catching a bite.
Main Street is a very busy and lively place. There are numerous restaurants to pick from and a lot of unique shopping as well. A great alternative to a boring indoor mall. There are art galleries, bookstores, bars, restaurants...check out the M-Den for Michigan items (one of several locations). This street gets very crowded after a football game and you could easily be in bumper to bumper traffic so plan accordingly. Main campus is several streets away, but still walkable in nice weather.
Great place to visit in all seasons. We went on Halloween-- the stores were bustling with warmth and little kids trick or treating in the stores (this was a town sponsored safe holiday event). The stores provide a range of artsy, unique items to high-end technical athletic gear to Life is Good apparel. Food choices are amazing--from craft brews to fancy fare and ethnic to American.Added bonus--seasonal outdoor dining.Parking is an issue. My advice, just pay for the garage and then don't worry about it. I think we paid a few bucks for a few hours. Not NY rates!
Ann Arbor was one of the best places to visit. Downtown has so many little shops, and side walk cafe's, people are super friendly and it was a nice day when we went. It's a true Gem .
We came to Ann Arbor for the first time, not knowing what to expect. We are from Ithaca, a much smaller college town. Ann Arbor is great! Restaurants, shops activity. Main Stret is great with a lot going on.
Even though its in a small town like Ann Arbor, youd always find it full of life!I once saw a car show on it in july, where people had brought their antiques for exhibition(there was a lambo too).. there was an art fair there too in july, i just loved that. Otherwise, this street has got everything. bars, restaurants, shops, just everyhting!
Went to a Michigan football game. People were do nice everywhere we went. Food was great. Many places that have delicious craft beer. Favorite place was the Jolly Pumpkin. Looking forward to visiting again!
When i went to school here Main Street was quiet and reserved for locals and seniors. Now it is a thriving scene made up of shop, restaurants and bars of every type, flavor and fashion. It is is a destination unto itself at any time of day. Check out Palio's rooftop. Limited menu but awesome scene!
Having visited the last week before the onslaught of students, I cant vouch for what the experience would be 'in season', but we found it delightful. Interesting stores with local products and virtually no chain stores. Unfortunately the ceramics coop which had been in business for 30 years is disappearing because of the rents. Would highly recommend the city intervene to keep Main Street as interesting and as much of a draw as it is. Terrific eateries including many vegetarian options. Didn't have to resort to a grilled cheese sandwich even once!
I really like the city of Ann Arbor because of how clean and easy it was to navigate around. We really enjoyed taking a stroll and looking at the many of the shops, bars and restaurants. However, being in our late 40s I probably wouldn't go back to this college town, because it was packed with young adults. At one point we looked around and noticed that we were the only older people in the restaurant we were in. :) That being said it is still a great little town to visit.
Lots of restaurants for all different tastes. Alive 7 days of the week. Near other interesting places.
