On Fridays and Saturdays in warmer weather months, there's a lot of street food. Plus there are many cool eateries around, and a good coffeeshop.

We have been going to The Strip District for years. We love the atmosphere; the noise; the food shops; the people; the street vendors and the fish shop Wholeys. If you are a visitor to Pittsburgh you must go to The Strip; make sure to visit The Pennsylvania Macaroni Co for cheeses, pasta and other Italian goodies. Penzy Spices is a must for cooks; also go to Wholeys for the experience! Arrive early in the AM and go to DeLuca's for breakfast; it is a tradition in our family.

Pittsburgh's strip district shopping can't be beat. We live in Indiana and make several trips every year to stock our freezer and pantry. Wholey's market has a fabulous selection of fresh seafood, excellent meats, homemade sausages, etc. Free ice to keep your purchases cold for the trip home. Pennsylvania Macaroni Co has hard to find Italian specialities, home made pasta, imported meats and cheeses, sauces and anything else you might want for true Italian products. Penzey's spices, anything Steeler, Pirates and Penguins, bakeries, ethnic foods and you name it, you can probably find it on the strip. Several eateries, street vendors and snacks for every appetite all served with a smile and very reasonably priced. Parking is available on the street below the strip.

Always enjoy the Strip!! Stopped down at the vendors to pick up some fresh food and some unique sports items. Spring coming is really great for the Strip!! It's so nice when the vendors are able to set up outside in full force.

The strip is an easy half-mile from the Westin convention center. We felt safe walking. Once you get to the strip it's full of people. On the weekends the vendors sell their wares outside on the sidewalk. You can really find some great deals. Make sure that you go into the big fishmarket you won't believe how cool it is. There are some casual restaurants to stop in for lunch. I would suggest spending a half of day shopping, people watching, going into the fishmarket and having some lunch.

if you're traveling to Pittsburgh, this is one of those things that you should do. Good restraints, shops with just about everything, museums within walking distance, a great place to wander on a nice day. Be prepared for full sidewalks and sometimes a line at the beat eating establishments but well worth it.

The Hungry Detective and wife did a late night tour of the strip district after the Garth Brooks show on Saturday night. I have been coming to the strip district since 1983 and its always safe and fun!!! There is always something new popping up or being repurposed.VERDICT: Guilty of fun...fun...fun!!!

We love to go the the Strip. We've been here many times. We always look forward to the trip. It is a bout a two hour drive for us but its always worthwhile. Lots of great ethnic food to experience. Many restaurants in this area.

If Strip District has restaurants & every type of ethic food imaginable. The Strip is home to Wholey's Fish & Meat Market,world famous Primanti Brothers, clothing stores, grocery stores, fruit markets, a variety of ethic grocery stores etc. If you come to Pittsburgh you have to visit the strip.

One of my favorite things to do is come to The Strip on a Saturday morning. There are vendors selling cool cheap t-shirts (Steelers, Pirates, Pitt, Penguins).....some are $5. I have bought many and they actually last a long time. If you see it......BUY IT.....sizes and great designs go fast.The stores sell everything you could ever want with a sports logo.Come for breakfast....early. Lines form around 8:30am. At the Macaroni Co. Get some Breadworks bread, excellent cheese in the cheese store, and good Italian foods and olive oil.Chocolate store is nice, Yinzers, Prestogeorge for coffee and tea.Have fun!! Then you can go to end of Smallman St and go to the Heinz Museum.Best day ever!

If you are coming to Pittsburgh, you need to make sure to put The Strip on your list. The large Italian grocery store, Penn Mac rivals NOLAs markets, minus the Muffaletta, of course!

Years ago the strip was a place where you could get food at wholesale prices and find just about any fresh food you could imagine. You also could get food that you would not easily find in the grocery store. (Think Christmas at Nonna's.) You could even do some Old World price haggling. It was a pretty exciting place to explore.Today the old world market atmosphere is gone, but some interesting shops emerged in their place. If you go on the weekend, there are many small food stands available. You can try food from many cultures and it is very reasonably priced. The vendors are happy to explain their personal stories and products. It makes for a fun experience and inexpensive lunch.A few of the old shops are left, and there are some newer local small businesses spirinkled in. You can still buy freshly baked bread and a wide variety of lunch meat sliced to your order. There are places to buy just about any kind of olives, loose tea, and homemade candy- just to name a few items. There are plenty of locations to buy souvenirs if you are looking for them. (You might still be able to haggle price there!)If this is your first trip to Pittsburgh, I might save this adventure for another time. if you are from the Burg and have never been there, add it to your bucket list.

The Strip District has many vendors out infront of their stores selling interesting items from one end of The Strip to the other.Many good restaurants and clubs to attend. The original Pramanti Brothers Restaurant started here on The Strip as a little sandwitch shop for truckers and any one else that wanted to leave with a all in one sandwitch; sandwitch, fries & coleslaw! They of course have expanded but you can still go there wee hours in the morning!

Once a legitimate wholesale food and warehouse district. The "Strip" has morphed first into a 5 block area of souvineer shops with a few old school eateries mixed in. There are no real wholesale produce stores anymore, you will find more at the local Giant Eagle.Parma Sausage is the only real food mfg.Penn Mac's warehouse is in Greentree. Wholey's is retail only. Fortunately more residential deep mentioned is occurring. Over all I think it is overrated.

Many things to do and see. Great restaurants and shops. Go on the weekends when vendors set up tables and sell great items at fantastic prices.
