Love this place to find those items that you just need to have when trying to making a special dish or surprise your neighbors during Octoberfest! Have been here on several occasions and I agree, owners are always welcoming and always pleasantly surprised on the different merchandise/food items that they carry. Very helpful and great addition to our town!! Love it!! :)
We visit family in Chambersburg, saw an ad for this place and stopped in. The owner is so very friendly and really made us feel at home. He offered us a few samples of cheese, salami, and candy. The selection and prices are wonderful. We are big cheese eaters and many of his cheeses are less costly per pound than places we shop. Since we were traveling we could not purchase a lot but we did buy a salami and some black licorice. While driving many hours my go to snack was the delicious black licorice...two types...one salted one not. Not sure where the licorice was from but it was the BEST I have ever had. Once we were home we sampled the salami...can't remember the type but it too was delicious. When leaving the shop we noticed the Crepe maker. Since we had just finished breakfast we could not eat one but I know we will return so I can try the crepe and get more licorice.
Owners are friendly and very helpful but not pushy. Have some very good cheeses that are not the same as what are at big stores.
Made it a point to stop at this store while traveling through Pennsylvania. This small shop carries food not only from Scandinavia but across Europe. The owners were extremely friendly and provided tastings of some excellent soppressata plus other tasty meats and cheeses. We bought some nice Hungarian salami and some excellent provolone. There's lots of good stuff in there so ask the owners for some assistance and they'll guide you to something unique yet tasty.
This is a nice little shop that features Scandinavian and European items one doesn't usually find outside a city. You can find different cheeses - my favorite being Brunost, or what is called in Germany Braunkäse. It is a sweet, dense brown cheese with something of a caramel flavor. Of course, they have Herring and some meats, including a very good Bratwurst along with Knackwurst, Gelbwurst and Leberkaese. As a specialty they have salted licorice (an acquired taste, I think),but they also had a few boxes of Turkish Delight when I last visited. It is a worthwhile stop as you never know what you might find to enjoy.
to have a specialty gourmet shop in Chambersburg. International goodies not found in local supermarkets or family stores. Herring (my husbands and daughters favorite), cheese, speicalty jams and baked goods. Pauline is friendly, helpful and informative. Located on Main Stree just south of King St near public parking, a great bookstore and great little restaurants.
