What a fun time! Our family had never experienced rafting before and this proved to be a perfect place to start. Everyone there was very kind, knowledgable, and it was very reasonably priced. Our guide Jay was fabulous. I was a little apprehensive having never done this before, but he made the trip very comfortable with excitement and laughs along the way. You could tell how much he loved his job. He took safety seriously but helped us relax and enjoy the ride. Our kids, ages 12 -17 had a blast. What a hidden treasure on the river! I would highly recommend them to anyone with or without experience !!!!
This was one of the best things about our trip to NC. Everyone from the woman I spoke to on the phone to the owner who gave me personalized directions through the NC mountain roads to our guide, Jay, were courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Very reasonably priced for the trip time. Took us about 2 hours to get down. Our kids had a great time. I think I laughed the whole way down the river. Great memories!
As one of the smaller rafting companies in the area, ARRC ensures a personalized rafting experience. We have been rafting before so we kinda of knew what to expect. Our guide made sure we had the most fun while being safe. Our guide was professional and friendly. We cannot emphasize how safe we felt and how much fun we had. Would recommend to anyone.
this was one of the many highlights of our trip. the seen is beautiful and with or without a guide it isn't that rough but just enough rapids for a good time! this is our second time going here and by far the best prices with easy access and no troubles. Uncle dave will take care of your any needs..we did stop at the "Jumping Rock" this is a large stone that sticks out of the mountains and deep enough to jump in the water. although the float to where you have to park your boat is well lets just say the water is cold and if you don't like the cold you might want to hold off. When you get back to the area where your raft is and get out of the water it doesn't take long to "thaw out"Great experience for all ages we had a party of 13 and 4 kids from the age of 10 to 18 (LOVED IT)
We took a bus from the Raft Company and were dropped off at our rafts up the river. The driver was safe! We were given safety instructions and then loaded into the river. We had a great ride!! We were picked up at the end of our trip by the bus. We really enjoyed our trip & our experience with the Appalachian Rivers Raft Company!
We had a blast, Alex our Guide and Michael (guide in training) were so much fun! We picked this company not only because of the reviews but also because they are a smaller family owned company. Alex was very entertaining and had great stories. My husband and daughter fell out of the raft at the last rapid because we didn't do "chicken run" I'm pretty sure my son talked them into that one "LOL". We laughed so hard we couldn't breathe - the pictures are hilarious and Michael got his first "save" when he rescued my daughter. The next day we decided to watch the rafters, while there, we were talking to one of the photographers and telling her how much fun we had and how great our guides Alex and Michael were, she then told us she was Alex's mom! She is just as awesome as Alex. We hight recommend Appalachian Rivers Raft Company!
We took a guided trip down the Nantahala River with our guide Alex over the Memorial Day weekend. This was my third trip down the river and its still exhilarating. App Rivers is a local outfitter and the guides are laid back and provide great information with a splash of humor between rapids. We stopped at Picnic Rock and jumped into the 55 degree water. App Rivers is the best value on the Nantahala. Please support local rafting.
My boyfriend and I took a trip down the river with a guide in a small raft. It was so much fun, and so relaxing. We would totally do it again. Our guide showed us how to bump off of rocks and get spinning around and around. We both jumped in the water and it was freezing but exhilarating! The thrill level can be adjusted to what you want...head for the calm waters to just lazily float down the river, head for the whitewater to slosh around and get some fun action!
There are many raft companies you can use but this one is the best! Their rates are better than many of the companies but its their customer service that won me over. We booked our trip for mid-afternoon on Saturday but were in the area around noon and decided to drop in and see if we could go earlier. They were so accommodating and friendly and went out of their way to make this a great trip. Cory was our guide and asked about our experience levels. I was the only one who had done this before and he was excited to show everyone a great time. He has an awesome personality and joked around a lot. We bounced off rocks and spun around several times and the kids loved it. About 2/3 of the way down we stopped at "picnic rock" and everyone jumped off the rock into the water (which was very "refreshing", i.e. cold). The scenery is gorgeous and the experience was relaxing and exciting at the same time. Everyone said it was the highlight of our trip. Next time we're in the area we will definitely be back.
Whoever wishes to go down the Nantahala River with the most fun, ease, and least amount of complication, they must use App. Rivers! They are all great people who want you to have the most fun you possibly can in your experience of the Nantahala. They love this place, and they love this river, and they pass that love onto you. There isn't a better way to experience white water rafting on the Nantahala.
First, this was great, affordable fun for the whole day. Beautiful scenery in a mountain environment on the Nantahala River. The price is real good for a day of fun. Now the minuses. The part that really needs to be improved on is the traffic control . River traffic, that is (we did go on a Saturday). The river was busier than the road getting to the place. Many of the tour companies including App River offer self guided tours (like ours). Rafts will bunch up (6-12) before a rapid and there is a lot of confusion and collisions - then getting hung up on rocks). At some point, it can get dangerous, not so much due to the rapids but due to the inexperienced people out there doing dumb things, through no fault of their own. Despite signing a waiver, I think there needs to be some added interest from the raft companies to protect their investment and make it a better, safer experience for those going up there. We got caught on rocks three times where we had to send someone out to push us off, and we also had two people fall out. I have gone on guided two day trips before where we had less mishaps (than in the two hours on the Nantahala River). The raft companies should band together to do something to thin out the volume or control it by holding groups together with big time intervals. We saw no such effort on our trip. If none of that is possible, they really need to send a guide out with every group of 6 - 8 to make sure that they have a good experience and don't hurt themselves, or others.Other small things....Bathroom facilities - One stall and one urinal for the men with two showers. I believe it was similar for the women. If they are going to host big groups (we had three busses), they need to really be able to accommodate groups - else don't do it.Barbecue lunch - one small dollop of pork and one side (not two). Bag of regular chips, no beans, and a Sam's Cola. After two hours on the river, they could be a bit more generous on what is provided. No one is going there to eat but when you get the impression they are weighing the portions, it detracts. I'll continue to go rafting, but will think twice about going to this place on a Saturday again.
I have used this company for the last two summers. These people are very helpful and accomodating for beginners and experienced riders. They go out of their way to provide you with a great experience. Their rates are very competitive and affordable compared to the other outfits on the river. The other outfitters are fine too, but not as nice as these people.
We went with my son's boy scout troop and they were incredible. They lent us wetsuit at no cost and our guide, Andy, was very good. He engaged the kids in conversation, gave us history of the area and most importantly, kept us safe. Andy is an eagle scout ap you're good!!
I highly recommend Appalachian Rivers for your white water rafing experince. John was our guide. He was fun, friendly and adventurous. He asked us what our comfort level was and made the trip exciting. We got wet, bounced off rocks and twirled around on purpose. We even stopped to jump off a huge rock into the cold "nany" river. HIghtly recommend this company!!
Just finished our run down the Nantahala River with Jay as our guide from Appalachian Rivers Rafting outfitters. What a great time!!! Jay was knowledgable and courteous and gave us a fun and exciting trip. Highly recommend this outfitter - competent and affordable, bonus, hot showers at the end- overall great experience!!!
