Thanks for visiting us at Sanctuary Vineyards, and we are sorry we couldn't offer a more personal wine tasting. We were holding our annual wine and oyster festivalthat day, and with a full house, we were just trying to keep up! Please accept our apology, as well as an invitation to join us again. Thanks for supporting local wineries!

My partner and I try to visit a winery or two everywhere we go, so we were very excited to see there was a winery so close to the Outer Banks. We drove by it on the way to Kitty Hawk from Norfolk and stopped. The winery has 13 wines to choose from, and they will let you taste each one for free. We were also in luck the day we stopped because they had just uncorked their new blueberry and blackberry dessert wines a few hours before we arrived. The winery is small and grows most of its grapes on site, and you can see the vineyards driving along the highway. There are several dry wines to try, which my partner and his mother loved, and there are a few sweet wines too, so everyone will be happy. The sweet wines are of the muscadine variety, which I love, so I was very excited to see them on the tasting menu.We left for the Outer Banks with a bottle of the Wright Brothers Reserve, Life's a Peach, Wild Pony White, and Wildflowers (which came with a set of watercolors to paint the label after you finished drinking). This winery is a great stop on the way to the Outer Banks to taste wine and take a bottle or case with you.

On my families recent trip to the Outer Banks we passed this vineyard on the way in and decided to come back and check it out. They do free tastings everyday and have quite a variety of wines to choose from. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I am a sweet wine drinker and their white wines were awesome as well as their wine called "The Plank".

After 8 hrs on the road, it was refreshing to stop for a short time at a local winery. We got to taste all of their wines and the salesperson was very knowledgeable and friendly! I highly recommend this for people of legal age!

The winery offers free tastings everyday. Most of the wines are either dry or very, very sweet. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines they sell. You can enjoy a bottle or glass on a seat in front of the tasting room or a picnic lunch on the grounds of the Cotton gin just down the street near the vines and cornfields. Traffic is very bad in season (158), I'd suggest stopping on the way home or if the traffic is really heavy. Its definitely the better option for a winery visit in the Outer Banks.

The winery has live music on Thursday evenings part of the year. The music is great, and the wine is tasty too. The venue is normally outside(bring chairs, a blanket and a picnic basket. If the weather may be bad, they move it into the tasting area of the winery. Friendly owners and staff that treat everyone like a local.

We have stopped by Sanctuary Vineyards twice now and have visited them at the wine tastings at the Whalehead Club as well as at their tasting room in Corolla. We had the incredible pleasure of getting to meet John, the mastermind winemaker, who spent thirty minutes talking to us and teaching us about his wines. The wines stand alone and they are incredible by their own right- it is uncommon to find an East Coast winery that can actually make a delicious dry wine. However, we were so impressed by him and the staff that we can not wait to return many times again to enjoy their company along with their exceptional wines.

We visited the tasting room in the Nags Head Cotton Gin on a Sunday afternoon in late May. The "tasting area" is relatively small and I would imagine it would be difficult to fit more than 3-4 people at the bar at one time, but as the only two there right when it opened (at noon), we had no problems. We told the Sanctuary Vineyard server what type of wine we usually drink and he arranged a lineup of tastings based on our preferences. Samples were generous and numerous- we each got to try about six different varieties. And did I mention tastings are completely FREE?While we did not buy any immediately, there was one variety that I just could not get out of my mind, and later that afternoon, made a trip back to the Cotton Gin to buy a bottle. It is their new red table wine, The Plank, a "jammy" red muscadine that is like nothing you have ever tasted. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and I am kicking myself for not remembering his name. If you have the chance to make it up to Jarvisburg to see the vineyards, I am sure the experience is worth the drive. If not, definitely make sure to stop by their satellite location at one of the Cotton Gin stores.

I have been to Sanctuary several times in the past. As a result of lovely tastings, my daughter decided she wanted local wine for her May 2014 wedding in the Outer Banks. John Wright was very helpful and always warm and friendly. The wine was a great hit at the wedding - only 3 bottles left. They have a lovely gift shop. Also, during the summer, on Thursday evenings, they have wine and music! I went to the first of the season this year on a soft, lovely night. The guitarist was terrific. You could taste and purchase any wine. They had two wine slushies as well. Their "yard" is a perfect, relaxing place.

We love to eat/drink local so we stopped here to purchase some local wine while on vacation in Nags Head. The staff in the tasting room were very friendly, we tried many of their wines, which we enjoyed (and took plenty home!), there is also a nice gift shop, we will be visiting them on our next trip to the Outer Banks

We did a wine tasting at the Sanctuary Vineyards in Jarvisburg, NC, today. Compared to so many of the wines we have tasted in FL,SC, and NC, Sanctuary Vineyards used a variety of grapes and produced wines with some complex flavors. The person who did our wine tasting was friendly and very open to answering our questions. We enjoyed the tasting and look forward to enjoying the wines we brought home with us. If you are in the area give Sanctuary Vineyards a try.

We attended a wedding here. What a perfect place for a wedding and reception. Private, intimate gathering place, perfect for any special occasion. The food was catered...a Southern Barbecue with all of the yummy trimmings! Wines from the vineyard were served. There was a dance floor set up with a DJ. The atmosphere was festive and the decorations perfect, a good time was had my all!

In small groups we shared a large variety of wines served by a jovial gentleman who laughed and joked with us throughout. There is a small but nice gift shop as well.

Coming from Long Island where out east we have some award winning vineyards, I've come to expect a lower quality of wine than I'm used to when I travel. Sanctuary Vineyard is an exception. The wines, although mostly blends, are surprisingly good. The tasting room is large and well appointed and the servers are pleasant and informative. The prices are more than reasonable. When in the area, stop by for a free tasting. I'll bet you walk out with at least one bottle.

We have done wine tasting here a couple of times. The wines are excellent, and the tasting is a wonderful experience. Stop here on your way to the Outer Banks. You won't be disappointed!!
