this is a small community playhouse but is a fun way to spend an evening. We saw "Run for Your Wife", a comedy and British farce. We laughed through the whole show. It was a lot of fun.
I saw "The Odd Couple" , an all female cast. The theatre it's self was a nice size and loved being able to see the stage well. For the area, I thought they did a nice job. The lead women were very good as well as the two men who played the neighbors. All in all, I would go again, if the title interested me.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat......Just a joy to watch! Funny, great singing and a fun night out with girlfriends. We have season tickets and look forward to all the plays.
We enjoyed a rousing performance of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This was our first time visiting the playhouse. We had no expectations, as community playhouses vary greatly. The theatre is small and intimate. My husband & I laughed as we'd occupied the time of the theatre salesperson on the phone for some time, deciding which seats to choose for the best view. She must have thought we were nuts wasting her time (though she was very courteous). There is no bad seat in the house as there are only about ten rows, probably less. This was an excellent production and far better than many other community plays we have seen in other towns. The impressive set was designed by the high school art class. The sound was good. The play was a hoot, it was obvious everyone - actors & audience alike, were enjoying themselves. The actors were talented & the music was great. We will return to this little playhouse, which has been operating for over 45 years. It looks like they have about 5 different plays and musicals per year & we intend to get season tickets. As the theatre is not huge, we were able to find parking and after the event, it was not an ordeal to leave. How wonderful Oak Harbor has this charming cultural gem.
Can't beat the Whidbey Playhouse for an entertaining evening. There are many, talented locals who contribute by acting, constructing sets, costuming, etc. In almost 30 years of attending plays at this venue, some productions better than others, but never one that was disappointing. Definitely a good bet for an evening's entertainment!
I have always loved Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years", and was excited to hear that it had come to Whidbey Playhouse. I was unsure as to what to expect from this community theatre, but I was pleasantly surprised by by amount of talent shown during this production. I look forward to the next show!
I am a supporter of community theater and a champion of good community theater so it pains me to give my hometown theater a so-so review. Example - One of the best shows ever was 'Nunsense' a few years ago with a cast, live musicians and production values nothing short of astounding. Yet, we could hardly wait for intermission before walking out of 'It's A Wonderful Life', so embarrassed were we for the stumbling actors and childish scene changes. It was below a high school production. Caveat emptor. Sincerely hopes it improves.
The actors and actresses always do a marvelous job! The variety of shows that the Playhouse chooses keep the family, or friends or couples coming back for more. A treasure for our community.
Been attending plays there for over 25 year and am never disappointed! In fact, I have season tickets this year.
I am a member of a community theater in the Twin Cities (Minnesota), and while visiting my daughter in Oak Harbor, she invited us to a play at WP. I was thrilled at the thought of seeing community theater while here.We saw the production of "5 Women in the Same Dress" last night. I was impressed that the theater took on a play such as this, being that many would not appreciate its mature subject matter and adult language. I find that WP showed wisdom and courage in producing this play, in that all communities need to be exposed to a wide range of theatrical themes and styles. All in all, I truly enjoyed the performance. The theater itself is wonderfully intimate, yet spacious in its seating arraignments; and the energy of the cast was thrilling. I heartily recommend you spend a night at Whidbey Playhouse, you won't regret it.
There is the small town charm to this theater. But great actors and great shows. Can't wait for the next one.
Went to see "Bad Year for Tomatos" and I laughed the whole time! It was so funny, and after people were standing up clapping! After seeing this 1 show, I bought a season ticket for the rest of their season! Can't wait until "Meet Me In St. Louis"!!!!!
We saw the play "A Good Year for Tomatoes". I'm sure the cast tried their best, but it is not a very good play. It was supposed to be a comedy, we didn't find it very funny so we left at intermission.
Great staff, great local talent, great shows. Always enjoy my time here.
