computer history museum

加州计算机博物馆，门口有一个小酒吧有卖软饮，里面展厅不是很大，可以拍照，不能用闪光灯。有各种老式的计算机设备，体现计算机的发展历史，从早期的算盘，齿轮机，密码机，到航天上的高级玩意，很多展品是个人捐赠的，看到了90年代的风靡全球的红白游戏机，还有个黄金的PS2手柄，没看到苹果第一代电脑，没机会膜拜乔布斯大神了，门口免费停车，40分钟可以游览完，值得一看。

美国的计算机历史博物馆，可谓是让我打开眼界了，因为这里有关于计算机的展品都是我们读书时候课本经常提到的。这里有全世界第一台计算机，那是手摇动力实现计算机的计算机，可以完成方程式计算。还有IBM当年设计的那台“深蓝”，比我想象的要小些，比课本看到的要威武，一同展出的有关于当时俄罗斯国际象棋大师博弈时候用的棋盘以及相片。还有的就是那段长达15分钟的计算机发展史的影片，很值得一看，从计算机研究开始讲到计算机发展到现在的情况，很多知识都一一展现在生动讲述当中，我把它录制下来后，是现在很好教育材料，非常值得推广播放。每一件展品都价值连城的，因为这些设备都承载着改变人类工作和生活方式的东西，去美国，特别是对学IT类专业或者对计算机有浓厚兴趣的人，都应该来看看。

The museum is open Weds-Sun 10-5 and is located in Mountain View about an hour south of San Francisco by car. The fee is $12 for seniors/students/military and $15 otherwise.I spent 2-3 hours at the museum and found it excellent. I am a retired computer professional and found all my old equipment and materials staring at me from the displays, a little strange to be walking through a museum of my own recent past.. The museum has a wonderful set up of a working IBM 1401 mainframe that is a perfect picture of the 1950's early 1960's data center (spinning tapes and clacking line printers). The main display rooms are organized along a time line and take you from early machines through supercomputers. There are video interviews with most of the major players in computer development and they are very good. This is a great place to visist for any one interested in the history of computing and seeing examples of the early machines and technology that have led us to today's devices. I

this is a pretty amazing place. they did a very nice job of presenting pertinent info. the staff was just wonderful. anyone remotely interested in computer, general history should visit

We spent five hours in the museum, and there is still more to see. We started with a guided tour that I highly recommend. The guide was interesting and full of information. Then we were on our own. So many of the exhibits brought back great memories, things our children have never even heard of. The short video clips and the other audiovisual displays were excellent, and the written explanations were clear. Overall an exceptional experience.

Shows the history of computers starting with the abacus/sliderule to google maps and google self-driving cars. Took about 2 hours to look at all the chips, robots, etc. (Has a very good website showing the exhibits.) Plenty of restrooms throughout the exhibit and a small cafe/coffee bar in the lobby. Nice museum store had plenty of brain-stimulating toys for kids of all ages.

If you are in tech (and also if you are not) you must see this place. All the stuff that changed today's life has started from something which is in this museum.

The pace of innovation is fast and furious, turning the latest coveted gizmos into obsolete junk. Still, it’s probably the one time in your life when you can walk into a museum and have a complete understanding of the subject matter (unlike art).The exhibits proceed in a chronological and thematic order. The history of computing has a select membership of influential (but rather dull) technocratic characters and the museum does a good job of fleshing them out. The displays are well lighted. The descriptions are mercifully written in a jargon-free language. There are unique artifacts that you could previously see nowhere else but in textbooks: the Difference Engine #2, the Cray #1, the MacIntosh 128K. Oh, sorry! Last one is boxed up somewhere in my garage… (should have donated it to the museum for a tax deduction).Pros:Go for the tech oddities. Don’t sit on the sofa-like Cray.Museum packs a lot of history given its small space.Cons:Strange but there are few interactive displays for a tech museum.No 3-D theater is a scandal! And no shark tunnel! Oops, wrong review…Building is a boring-looking office park box with no starchitect visual signature

If you are a techie, you will love this place. If you aren't a techie, the museum will make you appreciate techies. This modern museum is dedicated to the history of computing and has everything from calculators to analog computers to mainframes to mini computers. I recommend seeing the movie The Imitation Game before you go. There's an exhibit about Alan Turing that will be more interesting after you see the movie. The movie also gives you some insight into the importance of technology, and how hard people had to fight to advance the science.The highlight of the trip for me was the Analytical Engine designed by Charles Babbage. It's aforerunner to the computer and it's fascinating! The museum has staff that give presentations on the engine, which you can watch work. Amazing, complex, lots of fun.computerhistory.org has all the info. Plan your trip and spend the day. Nice tech-related gift shop and the Cloud Cafe in the lobby. The cafe has good sandwiches and coffee drinks.

This is a great place to check out history int he making! It is loaded with lots of fun and interesting things that illustrate the innovation that is Silicon Valley!

This is the place to go if you are interested in computers and computer history. They have an incredible collection of computers from early mainframes, mini-computers and early personal computers up to modern high performance Cray systems. They even have a working Babbage machine which is an amazing mechanical contraption to see in operation.

I liked everything. There is more than enough to keep one busy for more than a couple of hours. Every time we attend I'm taken with new exhibits. Last year we got to ride in a Google driverless car!

If you are a computer buff, don't miss this place. They have everything from early mainframes to current hardware. Set in a modern building with docents available to guide you if you want more detail than what if on the exhibit signage. Reasonably priced for what you are seeing. Budget at least two hours or more.

if you have any interest in computers, its a must visit! Any time i have friends visiting from out of state / out of the country, I take them to the computer history museum, and every time its a hit :) GO!

This place is great with a lot of interesting exhibits, they have some terminals from the cold war and one of the original hard drivesThe docent tours were quite busy but really informative. When I visited they had 2 special exhibits a babbage difference machine and one of the self driving google cars
