We had a great time visiting here. This was the second beach we came to after landing in San Diego. It was a bit smelly because the seals are so close but it was amazing to see them right there!
We came upon this beautiful spot by accident, and spent the afternoon watching mama seals and their pups sunning themselves on the shore. The gulls and the waves added to the beauty of this peaceful spot. Apparently, locals stop by often to check in on the seals during pupping season, December through May. It was a great way to unwind after our long plane flight to San Diego. I often think about how the seal babies are doing!
Love this cove and watching the seals and birds gather. We enjoyed a great walk around after a great lunch in LaJolla. It is very beautiful and should be on everyone's list when visiting the area. Nothing like nature.
We ended up here by accident and I'm glad we did. The views were great and there we many seals and sea lions. It was very clean and a place I would recommend family visiting.
Parking was hard to find, but the cove was beautiful and the seals & sea lions were awesome. Definitely take a walk through the business district near tye cove which was packed with great stores & restaurants.
Visited recently while having breakfast nearby. Definitely worth it if visiting La Jolla for dining or shopping. A little small but scenic views and a short walk to the beach. Best part was the seals. In fact, a group was lounging only a few feet from the fence, much to the crowd's delight. Of course there's a bit of a smell from the seal droppings, but a small price to pay for such a close encounter!
If you are a lover of wildlife and enjoy a beautiful coastline La Jolla Cove is a must. The smell is horrible and free parking is hard to come by but the seals and sea lions are fun to watch. We were able to get really close to a couple of seals. I would recommend wearing shoes that are good for climbing on smooth rock if you want to get close to the seals.
Even on an unusually cold day, the walkways above the cove were crowded, as were the accessible beaches. It's still worth the visit, despite the visitors who get too close to the seals for safety. Wildlife, waves and sea, watching wet-suited snorkelers and divers heading out into one of the richest marine ecological reserves, you'll have your camera out nonstop. Note: it's pronounced La Hoya (not La Holla! Even though that's fun to say).
Walk all around the town enjoying the shops and restaurants before heading down to the ocean front and the cove. You will get to see sea lions and beautiful views. Spending a day in La Jolla is well worth it when in the San Diego area.
