We have been going here for several years. Just went to a Cabaret like show Sunday night. It was marvelous. We tend to stick to musicals and comedy. They also have an artist work and display area which is most interesting. They are a non-profit but the shows are quite professional. Check out what is playing, about 7 or 8 offerings during the year.
small staff with limited budget does a fantastic job of putting on quality shows. there is not a bad seat in the house. wonderful to come early and enjoy dinner in the downtown area before the show. or a drink at one of the many bars afterwards.
Love this theater. It is well managed, small and has a wonderful personal touch to all who are patrons. The actors are especially wonderful in everything they attempt
It's hard to pin down why this place is so fabulous. The choice of productions is astoundingly on target! The acting is great! The venue is artsy and intimate! Check to see if anything is playing while in town, and then don't hesitate to go!
This is a small, intimate theater where you get up close and complete views of the actors. The acoustics are very good and if you're so inclined, you can bring a beverage, alcoholic or non, to enjoy while you watch the plays. I'm a season ticket holder and have not seen a play I did not really enjoy!
We have been to about four plays so far at NVA and they have all been well done and we look forward to going back. The whole vibe of the place is wonderful, with coffee, wine, and beer selections inside and usually a dessert food truck out front. The other great thing about NVA is the connected artist's studio where you can walk through and see local artists at work (if they are in their stalls) or at least gaze upon their work as you sip your aforementioned beverage. I highly encourage all San Diego county residents, especially if your in north county, to check out a play or special event at NVA. You will be entertained, you will feel welcome and feel a part of a community, and be happy you went.
Really enjoy this experience. Went to several musical shows and had great fun in each. The prices are reasonable and the talent is superb. Wish they had more shows than they do. Highly recommended.
The productions put on at this intimate theater are top notch. Every single performer can hold their own to any Broadway actor/actress. The acting is incredible. The staging, scenery, costuming, lighting, etc. is amazing as well. There is not a bad seat in the house. The cost is reasonable and free parking is available across the street by the Coaster train station. Carlsbad is fortunate to have such a professional theater company in residence. New Village Arts puts on educational programs as well. They also sometimes have play readings, concerts, etc. Additionally, attached to NVA is an art studio where you can browse and see what various local artists are creating.
This play was the perfect ending to our week in Carlsbad. We saw their first night preview of Wait Until Dark. This is a very small theater with all great seats. The cast was amazing! I'd never seen the play, but was very familiar with the movie starring Audry Hepburn. Knowing the basic plot did not prevent me from being scared several times. Very believable; it made me look behind us carefully as we walked to our cars. Park for free in The Coaster parking lot, which is well lit and close by. Get there a little early (show was at 8pm) and enjoy the adjacent artists' gallery. The upcoming season looks so good I wish we could get season tickets. If we are in the area on vacation again we will definitely look for another New Village Arts Theatre production.
We saw Suds, The Musical on a Thursday night and it was great. The four-person cast is high-energy, entertaining and presents a fast-moving show with enough songs and music to satisfy anyone.
We have been to the New Village Arts Theatre a couple times now, to see A Trip to Bountiful and One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. Both productions were very well done and very professional. The venue is very small and intimate, so every seat is a good seat. They have drinks and snacks to buy and the atmosphere is casual. I would highly recommend this theatre to anyone looking for local entertainment at a reasonable price.
