Some nice holes. Scattered around the desert, you devote all your focus on one hole at a time. Fire cliff has some nice variety however the greens were not great and the course was VERY crowded although we got through in less than 4.5 hours. Would play again but there needs to be some attention paid to the condition of the greens.
Excellent condition golf course. I played from the forward tees for fun and had a blast. It is very well run with lots of staff to help. It was my first desert course, so I was in awe of the flora. My first road runner too. The clubhouse sits in the desert perfectly - huge proshop for shopping. We didn't eat there, but the setting was great.
High quality municipal courses are lacking in the "Desert" but the Desert Willow complex will rival many of the "privates".The Kemper staff is superb on the phone, in the Pro Shop and on the course. The merchandise in the Pro Shop is displayed in a friendly manner and the restaurant is superb! Nothing beats a beer sitting outside with your buddies after a fun round on either of the 2 excellent courses. The greens on Firecliff have some current issues but the Mountain course greens are first rate.
I recently played the Firecliff course, for the first time, during my stay in Palm Springs. Below are my OPINIONS of the course and the overall experience.First, the POSITIVES: The drive up to the club house and all of the facilities are top notch, as was the service. You’ll have access to free balls on the all-grass driving range, which also includes a chipping and putting area. The carts include GPS units, which tell you the distance to the pins, are included in the green fees. The course (Firecliff) itself was an intriguing design with a couple of reachable par 4/5s for longer hitters and a variety of holes. The fairways are relatively wide open for a “desert-style” course and were in great condition. Now, the NEGATIVES: The greens were in absolute terrible condition compared to other courses that I have played in this price range ($120+). I’m not sure whether the course has neglected them but I found them hard, bumpy and seemed to lack good grass coverage in spots. Our round also took 4.5 hours to complete, which may be acceptable to some, and we were waiting on most tee and approach shots.People in my foursome have played this course in the past and were shocked at the conditions of the greens. Someone motioned that he heard that the other course (Mountain) was in better condition but take that with a grain of salt, as I did not play it. In conclusion, I don't plan to play this course again, given the price and conditions of the greens. For the price they charge, I personally expect a lot more and, luckily, there are MANY other good options in the Palm Springs area.
I played both courses many times over the past 13 years and they are always in perfect condition. Desert setting in the midst of one of the coldest winters in the Midwest and east coast make for a lovely vacation spot or second home.
Played Firecliff - every hole is a post card view!!Don't miss the restaurant - spectacular view as well
We played the Firecliff course on Monday. Since golfing in the Palm Springs for the last 3 weeks this is the finest course we have played. The staff are very friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Numerous bunkers and quite challenging but fun. We will definitely return.
We golfed all of the Mountainview course in the morning and were blown away by all aspects of the layout, the scenery, and the challenge this course presented. We were two couples playing from the white and gold tees, and had a blast. We purposely played Mountainview because it is the kinder, gentler course, and it held up to its reputation. Well we had also heard that Firecliff was even more scenic, though tougher. So we had some lunch enjoying the spectacular view from the superb clubhouse, and got in for twilight on Firecliff. It was tougher with a lot more sand, but it wasn't more scenic in our opinion. So if you are looking for fabulous golf for all levels of player in one of the most scenic locations in Palm Springs, make sure to book this course early!!
We played both the Mountainview and Firecliff courses during our week's stay in Palm Desert. Both courses are immaculate, Mountainview in slightly better condition around the greens. Firecliff is definitely the more challenging of the two, with NUMEROUS bunkers. Friendly staff, nice restaurant overlooking the course. First class.
This course is beautiful! Groomed to a tee not a single spot on the entire course with dead,or unsightly vegetation. We played the mountain course, we had first twilight time at 12:30. Cost was $90 per person.Friendly staff, great practice facility, nice lounge.A very positive experience.
This trip I played the Firecliff course (the Mountain course is the other) and it could not have been any nicer. The entire course is overseeded and lush green. The course is quite challenging with a fair number of serious bunkers and some water but generally reasonably forgiving off the tee. Good play around the greens is probably needed most to score well here. Carts have excellent GPS systems, staff is friendly and courteous and compared to upper end courses in Scottsdale/Phoenix this is a bargain. They have a beautiful driving range and putting green and a fantastic clubhouse with a very large patio overlooking the dramatic 9th and 18th holes. This is a top notch facility that deserves all the excellent reviews it gets.
We were here in early December. The course was in good condition and was not too busy. The price was $89 US. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and everything ran like clockwork. The patio was super for after golf lunch/supper and drinks. All very nice.
The drive into the course alone will take your breath away. We felt we were driving into the South Pacific. We golfed the Firecliffe course and although we started at noon, there were some slow players in front of us so we ended up playing the last couple of holes in darkness cause we just didn't want it to end. It is a stunningly beautiful course. We had eaten at the patio restaurant before we went out and the Ahi Ahi Burger was delicious although I thought it should have been on a more substantial bun to hold it better. Overall a very, very good day.
Played both courses and both were great. Mountain View is much less challenging and interestingly has far less spectacular views. Firewall is just gorgeous! The patio restaurant has a beautiful view and great lunch fare. Big portions.Highly recommend this golf destination.
Had the pleasure of playing a golf course from the tips that is as good as there is anywhere in the Palm Springs area, the FIRECLIFF course at Desert Willows Golf Resort, two great course at one resort; the MOUNTAINSIDE course has just planted their winter grass so is probably a couple of weeks from opening BUT if you want a great course to play then FIRECLIFF is the answer and when MOUNTAINSIDE is open you have double the pleasure, don't miss out on these course if you truly enjoy your golf. AND if your lucky enough to stay right at the WESTIN DESERT WILLOWS VILLAS RESORT as well, which is on the property then you need go no further to have everything you will want for the perfect holiday.
