We were so glad we read reviews and knew to stop here. We loved it!! Lots of Seals ,big and small! A natural environment but the seals are protected from the public. A great place to observe seals in their own habitat!
Was very interesting to view the elephant seals in their natural habitat even though they weren't doing much but napping! Great free fun for the entire family,
This is a must do if you're travelling the PCH. These are such amazing creatures. Most of the females had left by the time we visited but there were lots of "weaners" and big males to amuse us. We spent an hour with a truly great volunteer, Carol (her badge said 3300 hours) and learned so much. The huge males are remarkably agile and have the most gentle eyes and faces when they're not showing off for the crowds.
A real highlight of my Californian road trip. The seals are absolutely amazing; I could have watched them for ages. This is a free place to stop, easily accessible right next to the highway and super easy to find, so there's no reason not to go if you're in the area! Be sure to stop by if you get the chance - you won't regret it and will never forget it.
After spending an entire afternoon puttering around on highway 1, I was so excited to get out and to something! We laughed so hard watching these huge and strange animals. What a joy! These goofy animals will make you feel like a kid at the zoo.I now have a video of an elephant seal sneezing. How many people can say that?
We visit this mating area every time we are in Cambria. The elephant seals put on sparring, fighting, mating and birthing performances that are incredible. These animals are a true wonder spending most of their lives alone in the sea and coming ashore only twice a year. The big bulls are a sight; challenging each other with their roaring and flopping their huge noses around...amazing!
We almost missed this stop! Turned around and went back. So glad we did. These seals were so close to the walkway...just basking in the sun!
Awesome opportunity to see real elephant seals in their natural habitats...FOR FREE!!! Well, you should donate a buck at the end, but well worth the stop!
Amazing place! We spent hours looking at the elephant seals and their babies! We stayed until the sunset and that was another show. Worth visiting!
As if the multiple breathtaking vistas up and down Route 1 were not enough, you encounter this amazing place were these creatures are obviously not threatened and very at ease. There are hundreds of Lions in different stages according to the time of the year. We were fortunate to se many Pups and some huge males. If you are not from the regions were these animals have there colonies it is a huge treat to see.The road is well equipped to allow you ample parking and viewing areas. What an experience!
This is one stop you won't want to miss. I've been there many times and will still go back again. There is always a lot of action -- fighting, love making, babies being born. What more could you ask for.
Do not miss this stop along Highway One! I'm not sure what it's like during the rest of the year, but in the winter there is a long stretch of beach, with walkways above, which is just filled with huge elephant seals. The males can reach 15 feet and 8,000 pounds. They look kind of like beached whales, lying there asleep or occasionally flicking sand up onto their backs. Many of the females had nursing babies. You can get quite close to them. It's a memorable sight!
LIKED: Excellent, free, entertaining, educational, funny!DISLIKED: The crowds of pushy tourists who want a closer look.
