We are big museum geeks, and this one is a keeper. There is the biggest collection of birds and eggs I have ever seen. The dinosaur exhibit is first rate. The cost is really cheap at $10 for adults. "Skip" was a volunteer who was very informative. Looks like they do a lot with schools as well. Many of the exhibits were dedicated to local paleontology. Easy on and off freeway, but don't leave at Rush hour! Outside has lots of tables for picnicking or fast food nearby. And there is a old train for the kids. Nice little gift shop with lots of science toys for your little science lover.
If you are into museums or you just want to know a little bit more about the area this is a great spot. They have three floors of different eras. You do have to pay to come and see this museum for an adult it was $10 or if you're a student it's $7 active-duty military $8 and kids I wasn't paying attention but I think it's about five dollars. I'm sure the website will say it. They have an exploration section outside of the museum where you can see different types of lizards and spiders, makes and bugs. And of course they have a gift shop which most of the things are pretty reasonably priced. I have to say it is well worth it especially for kids because they always get excited when they get to see different things.
In the entire I.E., this is one of the very best place for families with kids. Or for grownups with an interest in the history, geology/biology, and culture of the area.
Went with our Coz we all enjoyed all the exhibits. Lots of information of history, birds and animals. We recommend this place.
My daughter's kindergarten class had a scheduled field trip with a tour and we loved it!Go ASA Dragons
Spent a very nice afternoon strolling through the Desert Garden, viewing historical, geologic, mining, photography and natural history exhibits. Very educational. The Hanna Bird exhibit is especially noteworthy.
This is such a nice find in Redlands. There are nice exhibits and fantastic lectures both by curators and also guest speakers. The field trips lead by Geology Curator Kathleen Springer and Paleontology Curator Eric Scott have been real highlights of learning and fun!
I always took my kids to visit when they were younger on a regular basis. Lots of things to see, and so educational.
Between the permanent exhibits and the special events, this is a great place to spend an afternoon. We especially enjoy the duck stamp and wildlife art exhibit in November, and we were sad that we had to miss it this year. The Hanna bird permanent exhibit is worth the trip by itself.
Variety of special displays that change regularly. The kids love it when it is dinosaurs. The gift shop is great and always a nice stop in a peaceful setting of a orange grove. Parking is easy...not a big deal but worth going...
There is so much to see, plan at least 2 hours. As well as the permanent collection, while we were there a special display of antique wedding items was there. The major permanent areas are minerals, old San Bernardino, including an impressive display of papers from the time, animals native to the Southwest, and, my favorite, the upstairs display of birds of the region.Very interesting and educational way to spend an afternoon....or many, as I have done!
This museum is a good excursion if you are in Redlands. It has a great mineral collection, a mammal section, insect displays, bird floor, and human history of the region. I spent a couple of hours there, and learned a lot. Bring a sweater. The AC was chilly.
This is a nice little Museum to visit. It's not huge, but not small either. There is just enough things to see here, for at least several hours.. As other reviewers have noted, they have a very large, bird collection here. There is also some rocks to view, as well as some local history and artifacts. There are also some live reptiles to view in a separate building. There is a steam train on the premise too. The price is modest, only $10 per person, and free parking.
We take the kids ranging from 2-6 once a month they always have fun and always entertained. Good prices crowds are minimal.
When you want to learn for yourself or teach younger folks, this venue offers a place to profitably spend a half of a day. Lots of local information both prehistoric and historic on display. Excellent second full floor of ornithology with stuffed birds and many eggs. Other floors present local natural and social history of the area. Plus, the surrounding grounds offer much to visit and learn.
