I love that they have revived this theater as I remember going there as a teenager. They get really good movies that may not make it to the main stream theaters or have already been there and they are willing to show them anyway.
I love the State and I love that I can go see movies and performers in a small intimate venue. The fact that you can enjoy a cocktail does not hurt either.
A historic non-profit theater with the most varied events for all tastes. We have attended first-run independent and retrospective films; comedian nights - Paula Poundstone was here in the spring; a free concert organized by a local music lover; educational programs. Did I mention that you can enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail with the show?
older theater and very nice and unique. Brings in different types of movies and has special event programs for public.
Beautiful art deco theater. Completely refurbished and new sound system installed last year. Wonderful live performances as well as fun movie premieres. Don't miss this gem!
If you love authentic decor and an experience that takes you back in time, you will love our State Theater The selections of movies are outstanding and staff is courteous and friendly.
This theatre is dedicated to bring to the community fine entertainment and excellent movies. We love the architecture and the selection of entertainment.
The venue of movies/shows has wonderful variety! This place has the feel of 1920s, but modernized to accommodate....snack bar is especially fun!
My girlfriend and I like to catch a movie at the State Theatre about every two months. My husband and I go to a music performance at least twice a year at the State. We are able to find movies and/or performances not available at the other venues in town. Love the State Theatre! I gave it a 4 star only because of limited bathroom facilities and the sound is too low. Otherwise, it's a 5 star venue!
This theater puts on special movies and events on occasion. I had trouble hearing the movie because it's an old theater and their sound system is outdated. It is more expensive than the other theaters I go to. They have food catered occasionally, and on one occasion the food didn't agree with my husband. The staff was nice about it, but it shied us away.
The state theatre is a majestic place, reminds me of movie houses of the past. Old time movies are shown and folks show up in period costumes as well.- a great alternative to the high tech places around town.
The State Theater shows films that should be running in the multiplexes, but apparently they think Modestans are not sophisticated enough to appreciate them. In other words, The State shows intelligent and artful movies that appeal to real movie buffs. The State is an old theater rejuvenated, meaning that it has real character, enhanced by the fact that it serves wine and beer as well as a nice variety of theater snacks. In addition to a wide variety of movies, from old classics to art and foreign films and those mainstream flicks that the big theaters shun because they don't have car chases, alien invaders or gun battles, the State brings in live concerts (Leo Kottke!) and other community events tied to local phenomenon like Grafitti Night. It's a big thumbs up for a place that defies the big chain theater complex, impersonal experience for an intimate and intelligent evening.
Check them out and go see a movie. The theater was restored and it is beautiful. Enjoy their great snack bar and they serve beer and wine. What else could you want.
The State Theatre is the place to go for indie and foreign films. The playlist includes excellent and quirky films that one may miss in the "big box" movie houses. They also have live performances and host local events, and it's a great venue for an intimate evening with the act you came to see. I suggest checking their website for upcoming attractions. You won't bee disappointed. The theatre was recently refurbished to it former glory. It is a Pantages style theater with art deco decor and old style lobby. If you like the big arena style theaters go to Regal or Edwards, but if you want to see a film in a glamorous old theatre, go to the State.
The State is a restored old theatre, showing movies and has other events as well. It's beautiful and they even sell 'drinks'! I go just about every month, they have great movies and performances. The staff or volunteers are awesome too.
