LOVE their wines & the experience can't be beat! Jonathan is very personable and professional and made our repeat visit just as fun & memorable as the first.
We had an amazing time at the Sanders Family Winery in Pahrump, NV. The wine tasting was free and we actually not only got to taste all the wines we had in stock but were also treated to drinks made using Cream Sherry and their Ruby Port. Mrs. Sanders did our tasting herself so you can get a more personal experience. Their whole operation just makes you feel good. You enter the grounds with the vineyard on both sides of the drive. You enter this beautiful outdoors area where they hold events and then into this very warm gift shop/tasting room. There was nothing rushed about it. You could take your time and enjoy each tasting and the story behind the grapes. If you are in the area you need to stop by. They invite you to bring your lunch and buy a bottle or glass of wine and enjoy the place. We brought home a lot more wine than we planned to buy and hope to stop by one more time before we leave the area.
Drove from Las Vegas to go to the two Winery's in Pahrump, it is less than an hour from Vegas, the winery had about 10+ wines you could taste for free. We chose only to do the reds which I thing were a total of 7 wines. The owner Mr Sanders waited on us and explained the wines the bottling process and how long each wine was in oak barrels. The wines them self were excellent and at a great price. We took a case home with us for a great price. This is an excellent way to spend an afternoon just a short drive from Vegas and is one of two winery's in Pahrump. The Pahrump Valley Winery was also started by Mister Sanders and he sold it 11 years ago and started this new one. All in All a fun day.
Their website says they are open 7 days a week for wine tasting from 10am to 5pm. We checked before driving in from Death Valley and arrived at 10:30am on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. The doors were all locked and no one answered our knocks. The signs on the doors also said they were open at 10am. Since they apparently didn't want our business, we ended up driving over to the Pahrump Winery instead and had a great wine tasting experience and ended up buying more wine than we had planned! Guess everything works out in the end!
We really enjoyed the hours that we spent tasting and buying the wines made by Jack. He and his wife sorry I forgot her name but they are really good at explaining the process and the grapes used to make their wines. Like allot of wineries in the desert they import grapes from other regions to make the majority of the wines they sell. Although our favorites were the two that they make from their own grapes. If your looking for a great place to get away from the Vegas shows and glitz, make Pahrump the top of your list for wines in the region. And whatever you want to buy they will ship to your home for you at a small price. Go have a great time.
They have a courtyard for putting on entertainment, but having to go through that area caused it to lose some of that “WELOCOME” feeling. Once inside the tasting room was nice, but again the high ceilings just did not make it feel like a winery. The owner’s son took charge and he did a great job with the tasting and even prepared several drinks for us after the tastings. I wish he would have taken the time to give us a little tour of his winery, but all we got was the tasting room. Just like the other winery, this is all about taste so I will comment on it over all other than to say they had several bottles which were perfect for my wife and I.
The winery is a nice place to go wine tasting. Jack and the staff are friendly and he knows a lot about the history of wine making in Pahrump and Nevada. We particularly enjoy the summer concerts there when he brings in Las Vegas entertainment on a Friday or Saturday evening. You pay a small admission price, bring your picnic snacks, enjoy some wine from them (you can purchase by the glass or bottle) and enjoy the concert and possibly even a dance or two!
Deep in the south corner of Nevada, amongst the strip malls, casinos and brothels (which are legal here by the way) in a small town called Pahrump lives the first vineyard/winery ever in Nevada. They’re not by any means prevalent here as the climate is better suited to cacti than grapes. But anyhow, somebody thought outside the box here and that man’s name was Jack Sanders – a likely long-lost relative. We toured the Sanders Family Winery and tasted all of their wines, including a port and sherry. They were all delicious (including the sherry cocktail) and Jack was a fantastic host. We bought half a dozen bottles for personal use and to ship home. Unfortunately we found out later that we can’t ship alcohol back to the UK as we need a license! However we were quite happy drinking 6 bottles of wine over the following week!
The wine was very good and the presentation was even better. The facilities are beautiful. They host concerts, weddings and plays. The owner was friendly and gave us information on his wines and the history of Pahrump.
My family and I enjoyed visiting the Sanders Family Winery after a day trip out of Las Vegas. We went to Death Valley and nothing could have been more suitable than some delicious and refreshing wine. We enjoyed our experience here and trying the wines, along with have conversations with RJ and Jonathan, who work at the winery. We have visited a lot of wineries on the east coast and were very pleased to be served by such genuine people. I would absolutely recommend that you stop here, as it is a peaceful sanctuary to escape from Las Vegas.
Sanders Family Winery is a friendly wine producer in the Pahrump valley of Nevada. It is about an hour drive west of Las Vegas on the south side of the Nye county town of Pahrump. The Winery is a family operation and is run by Jack Sanders. Jack established the original Pahrump Valley Winery in the 90's, as perhaps the first commercially distributed producer of wine in Nevada. He subsequently sold that business and after a few years opened "Sanders Family Winery". The winery is an attractive mission style structure and offers free tastings daily of some very good to excellent wines. Jack is a friendly personable host who loves to talk wine and wine making. The Winery makes an excellent stop on the way to or from a visit to Death Valley or just an opportunity to escape the "madness" of Las Vegas. Caution, the Winery does not sell any food products at this time. Additionally, it is quite warm in Pahrump during the summer months so, if you drive, be sure to bring water. The Winery also offers a variety of entertainment some weekend evenings. Check the web site for details. Enjoy a sip of wine!
The free wine tasting was very generous. We sampled 8 wines and also had two mixed drinks made with the cream sherry & ruby port.
We were on a Death Valley tour and this was a fabulous stop. Jack Sanders, owner and wine master, gave an outstanding and educational presentation along with a very generous wine tasting. The best wine presentation we have attended , and we have been to many California wineries! This is worth a side trip. Note that it was all free!
Over priced "store-shelf" wine except for his zin with the charcoal flavor. Mr, Sanders has a habit of interrupting conversations which is not good practice. The location does offer good views of sun sets but there are no amenities to speak of so just get yourself a nice bottle and set up in chair to enjoy the sunsets.
I have visited many wineries around the country. This is one that I will return to again and again! First, as a wine maker myself, this is award winning wine. NormallyI buy the obligatory one bottle when I visit...yes, I left with a case of a variety of their offerings. Not a bad one among them.
