Great show to watch and bring the family. Fairly cheap or you can watch from a distance outside the airport.
If you love aviation or just enjoy a family outing everyone will like, the Oregon International Airshow at the Hillsboro Airport is a must-see. I have seen the show every year it has been here because I live by the airport. I have watched it from show center on the field which puts you up close and personal. The static displays are amazing and you can photograph planes you would otherwise never see. The thrill of the various acts coming across the runway is awesome - much better than viewing from my front yard. The only advice I have if you go to the show is wear good walking shoes and bring sunscreen and a hat to keep from getting sunburned. The Blue Angels are my favorite team and they are due to be here in 2015!
A highlight of the summer. My family and I, young children to adults, have enjoyed attending the air show. The weekend aeronautical exhibitions are well organized and exciting, displaying amazing aerobatics. The Friday night show, in particular, concludes with a fireworks finale.
I'd never heard of Hillsboro until a few months back. My main reason for going was to see the F22 and Harrier demo teams. The RCAF Snowbirds were also the headliner. Couldn't really care less about the static displays but the photo pit pass was really worthwhile. The orientation of the runway and the photo pit make it just perfect for photographing the aircraft unlike many other airshows. I'll be back next year. A few issues that they need to resolve... If you charge photographers $50 to get the best photographic views, don't use the area in front of the pit as a staging area for parts of the acts ie Oracle poles. Also, don't setup portable lights up and down the flight line. The photo pit pass included food, but there was really no breaks in the show to allow us to line up for 45 min. for the food. The facilities were very clean and easy to access, the staff were very accommodating and friendly.
good food, great movies, very nice people and just a great time. you should try to come early since it does get crowded. really great pizza too.
And this experience is just that: average. There are planes that come by which are nice to look at. There was an issue with a plane crashing into a house a few years back during the air show. That's ok, though, because this takes place at the Hillsboro Airport, and seriously, EVERY plane crash in the region seems to be related to the Hillsboro Airport. That's not the fault of the airport, specifically. They do lots of flight training things out there, so you have to expect less than experienced pilots coming out of this place during training. There are many other flights from skilled pilots that come in and out of the airport every day, and this airport is also the chosen location for many celebrities to land in the Portland Metro area, because it isn't as populated as PDX.Good show. Good things to see. Good thing for Hillsboro.
Very loud but very exciting. Better on years where there is a jet team which the sequestration prevented this year. Fun community event and a great fund raiser.
Don't bother it's a waste of money and time. It has been going on for 20 plus years and it is the same old stuff. Trafic is horiable, roads are closed. Now the have some stupid fire show @ night on the runway. what that has to do with an "Air Show " is still a Mystery. I get more satisfaction to go to PDX and watch the Oregon AirGuard take off and land. That is for Free and not as much trafic.
For me, this is the highlight of every year, and has been since I was a baby. I have fond memories of day trips with just my dad and family visits; sitting show center and watching from outside the grounds. The fireworks are a high point and they outdid themselves this year (2013)!
Great time was had by all. We got great pricesonline, much more expensive if you buy tickets there. The food is nice too
Over the years, between the Rose Festival Airshow and the Oregon International airshow I have been to MANY. Perhaps 15? 20? I attended on Sunday this year. I heard Friday night was spectacular. Sunday's show was great. Sad that we didn't have the Thunderbird's this year. Thanks to the government sequester, it will be awhile we see them again. The private jet team, The Patriots did not disappoint! Nearly as good and the old Beachcraft was an amazing plane. "Good job" to all the volunteers who put this on.
My husband and I came to the airshow this year with friends, and we had a great time. We bought seats in the President's enclosure, which included private seating and tables with umbrellas, and the food was very good. In the morning there was a breakfast buffet with coffee and bottled water. Then they fired up the barbecues. The lunch buffet included salmon, chicken, hot dogs, garlic bread, stuffed grape leaves, and several salads. Yummy. In the afternoon during the air show, the snack buffet offered pastries, cakes, cookies, and fresh fruit. Before the show started, we walked through the vendor booths and saw a lot of the planes from the ground, then we spent the afternoon in our enclosure, watching the aerobatics. There were so many vintage planes to watch, plus skydiving stunts, followed by the Patriots. I loved having flight line access for photographing the planes, and the shady tables to retreat to when the sun got too warm.I enjoyed the day, and will definitely come back next year.
This was my first visit to this air show. I have been to many air shows but this was my first in Oregon. I enjoyed my day there. Lots of great flying by a verity of aircraft. The layout was also good with lots of booths to visit and types of food to eat. The only thing missing was plenty of shaded areas for the general public. They did have a large supply of water to fill bottles for everyone but if you wanted shade you needed to pay extra. Next time I know to pay for the special areas. All in all it was worth attending.
This was my first air show and I wasn't disappointed. We paid for the president's club package and I would recommend that you might want to pay for the better seating, but not all you can eat & drink. I just didn't think the food and drink was worth it. If it had been priced closer to $50, maybe. The exclusive seating is nice though because the other side is very crowded and with the more expensive seating the smaller amount of people made the event much more enjoyable. Sadly porta potties only, but they weren't bad (again making the exclusive seating area worth it). There was a great line up of aircraft and while it was sad there were no military airshows (due to budget) the rest of the lineup did a great job. If you're active or prior military you should definitely just go to the show for free & then you have the option of upgrading to the exclusive seating at the show (much cheaper than paying for it in advance). Another downside to the exclusive seating is there aren't umbrella covered tables for everyone so get there early enough to get one if you want one. It got to be somewhat uncomfortable when the sun is out full bore. We will definitely be going back again, but playing smarter the second time around.
This is a guaranteed good time for aviators and wanna bes. I missed the airshow last year because of a stupid cold, but I try to go every year and have a great time. It's the highlight of summer for me!
