OK, I thought sure I'll look inside the moldy old theater in Miami OK...you know why...THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE TO DO!!! Our vacation to NE Oklahoma was off to a cold, wet, windy and quite uninspired start so why the BEEP not. I'll go in, take the nickel tour, I'm bored out of my mind anyhow (fish weren't biting, golf course soggy wet, many sites not yet open for the season, etc). Then...we walked through the door. My boredom was instantly replaced with a sense of awe. As an amateur historian I simply had to know why such a place as this theater was in the big back middle of NE Oklahoma (no offense Okies but it's NE Oklahoma). Simply astounding! Beautiful. Inspiring. And quite cool. The tour was inside, throughout, behind closed doors, hands on (no you can't touch everything, but a lot of it you can), and SO INFORMATIONAL. The history is amazing, the theater is amazing. I was shocked, dumbfounded by the shear gorgeous audacity of the place. I honestly didn't want to leave. It was without a doubt the highlight of our trip, yes sadly it wasn't our best trip, but still the theater is so great it made a very dull day exceedingly bright. We still talk about that trip and how the theater alone made it a "glad we went anyway" trip.

If you travel route 66 you must stop at the Coleman Theater. You will love taking the tour of one of the most beautiful and interesting buildings on the Route.

Don't miss this place. You would swear you were in Europe when you get inside. Ask for a tour to get the full story. It has craftsmanship and gold and spectacular designs like no place else in Oklahoma. Bless those dear people in Miami for restoring this gem. It was a labor of love.

Beautiful old theatre restored to be magnificent like it was decades ago. Even had the original Wurlitzer organ restored. Very interesting to see and hear the history. We would have missed this if we had not stopped to see the Route 66 museum down the street.

I have to first say that Anthony P's review was most likely a review for the Coleman Restaurant inside Buffalo Run Casino, not the theatre itself. However, if you get a chance to stop by on your Route 66 tour, shoot, just stop here! Ask for a guided tour and you will be amazed at not only their past performers, but ask about the raffles they had waaaay back in the day! Puts life-then in a new perspective. Also ask about the kissing seats in the back, and why the gilded statue on the gorgeous grand staircase has a worn tush. Don't forget the ghost tours at Halloween. I'd like to return for that. What a magnifique feat to restoration!

had a steak dinner. Great food and great price. loved it. Service was great. Only down fall is that you have to go through the casino to get there. Stay away from the casino, the slots are very tight

It's amazing what money and a vision can do! Here is a world class theatre in a former mining town. I could close my eyes and see a young Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Will Rogers and Cary Grant performing vaudeville on the stage in this exquisite building. It has been preserved and refurbished in every detail. The tour guide was gracious and gave us a grand tour. The Coleman was easy to find and we'll worth the two hours we spent there. A silent picture day complete with pipe organ accompaniment is planned for May. It is a must if one is in the area.

I love historic Theaters and the Friends of The Coleman Theater have been doing a great job in restoring this 1929 beauty back to its original glory! Thank god it was donated to the city by the Coleman family so that it could be saved, restored and preserved! The people of Miami and the Route 66 enthusiasts can enjoy it for generations to come.

The Coleman Theater, used to day for live theater and music presentations of all kinds, was originally an opera house, built in the 1920s. It has been painstakingly restored to its former glory, and is absolutely beautiful throughout. From finding and re-installing the rare original pipe organ, to the gorgeous chandeliers, to preserving the ladies' powder room, no detail has been overlooked here in preserving and re-creating a glorious historical showpiece. You can tour it yourself, or better yet, let Larry show you around and wow you with his behind the scenes knowledge of the buildings history, ghosts, and more. He has been volunteering at the theater for over 12 years! We consider this theater a MUST stop for lovers of theater, music, history, and Rte. 66 classics.

We took the tour of the theater, it was free, and found it to be quite enchanting. The old pipe organ was magnificent. Highly recommend.

We walked in and was immediately greeted and went on a tour right away (it was just us 4). The architecture was amazing and the interesting history to go along with it. We got to go on stage and even have a backstage tour of the old electrical board and the pulls for the various props and curtains. I have to say being up on the stage, even with it being empty besides my family members, it was very intimidating. We got to hear the Wurlitzer play (recorded) and the history on that. Very colorful and magical place to think it was in 1929! I couldn't imagine how much skill and tools they used to hand craft everything. Main attraction to me was the chandelier! It was huge and shiny. I could sit there for hours and just stare at how beautiful it was! Up stairs was amazing with the old dressing rooms and bathrooms. A must see when visiting Miami! The only thing is it is free but there is a donation box at the entrance.

We took a free tour of the Coleman theater. A guide shows you around and tells you about the history of the theater and all about the restoration of the theater. It's beautiful. We got to go backstage and check out the "stars'" dressing room and the dressing rooms of the rest of the cast. Really neat place, on Route 66. It's a part of history.

The Coleman Theater is the most beautiful theater...bar none. In a town that obviously does not value its worth, the friends of the theater have been diligent in renovation something that is for the ages to enjoy. After taking the tour during the Joplin International Route 66 Festival (which was a boring festival), I learned that the theater was saved from the wrecking ball, literally. People in the community have saved this gem, and for the last 25 years have been slowly putting the pieces of it's history back together. With celebrities like Will Rogers, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and The Three Stooges gracing the stage back in the day, it is hard to say whether or not acts of their caliber can be supported now...but after attending the tribute to artist Charles Banks Wilson (who had his studio in Miami, just across the street from the theater), their is a definite interest in Prairie Home Companion-style shows that bring many acts together on the same stage. Personally, I'd like to see The Mavericks on this stage; if they could play the Uptown in Napa, CA, and Knuckleheads in KC, why not the Coleman? If you are traveling anywhere in the four-state area, you need to make the Coleman a stop on your journey. For a voluntary $5 donation (just like the Surf Ballroom in Iowa) for the tour, you'll be glad you did.
