We spent about 30 minutes browsing after seeing showmen's rest. We were disappointed at the lack of circus memorabilia, it focused mostly on Hugo itself. Cool to see a telephone operator's plugboard up close, and an old IBM punch card machine. The volunteer told us of his years of programming one in industry which was neat. Very friendly!
We stopped at the museum more out of curiosity than anything else. It was here I learned about the Harvey House restaurant and the Harvey Girls. We were pleasantly surprised to discover an entire 2nd floor to this little museum full of the artifacts of the past. There was so much history to see as well as the model trains and the miniature 5 ring circus. This museum is well worth a visit!
We saw this online when researching what to do in Oklahoma on our way to Poteau. It is a great small town museum stuffed with exhibits and run by volunteers who love their town and history. We were given a guided tour by the Norm Peace who was very helpful and interesting about his town and the exhibits. There's a lot to see. The museum also includes a restored Harvey House Restaurant which is where the trains stopped for meals and refreshments. There's still a track outside but only goods trains run by here now
