I have lived in this area for many years, but have only recently taken the opportunity to see the museum. It is so well done. The lighting is wonderful to see all of the train exhibits. The Warther men were so talented. Stop here ad see this exhibitionof carving in the realm of railroads and history. You will be happy you did.And - by the way - stop in the gift shop and buy some of the famous Warther knives.I received a set of knives for y wedding 34 years ago and I still use them. You can take a knife back there for sharpening any time.

Warther museum is one of the best places I have visited. I have recommended this museum to many friends and not one has been disappointed. I am not a train enthusiast but I enjoyed looking at all the amazing trains. We spend many hours enjoying the workmanship. We are planning on going back to visit the museum again.

Incredible works of art carved by Earnest "Mooney" Warther. A great family stop with so much to see including actual train cars on the property.

Was recommended to go here by locals who said it was a great carving museum. We went somewhat reluctantly as none of us were really into 'carving' per se. At the door, we felt the price was a little steep for 'a carving museum' but carried on because everyone said that it was the thing to see here.IT IS ABSOLUTELY THE THING TO SEE THEREIn a conversation with people about interesting things they see on their travels ... this one ALWAYS comes up as part of my tales. OUTSTANDING !It is worth a side trip just to go ... the skill of the carver .... the passion ... the detail .. the presentation by the museum ... ABSOLUTELY everything about it.One of a kind place and one of THE BEST finds I have ever found on my journeys ... make a side trip or if passing thru Dover. Make the time ... you will not regret it

The museum is very good! I would and will visit again. But when I went I had my 2 small kids under the ages of 6. I don't recommend for there ages. Or perhaps it's just my kids lol. Anyhow very nice and fun time. Get a set of knives. They are very nice and life time warranty on them.

For fans of railroads or wood carving! The details on the carvings are amazing, and all of it was hand done, in some cases over months or years. It has to be seen to be believed.

The Warther Museum is a MUST SEE if in the Dover, Ohio when you are in the area. Mr. Warther was an unbelievable artist of his kind. His trains carved out of ivory renders you speechless. A guided tour is available and you learn so much about the history of this man and his family. His wife's button collection adds to the delightful tour. This museum is for all ages and worthy of large groups. Their HOBO lunch in the gazebo is a treat unto it's self.. They even hand carve an item before your very eyes prior to a delightful stroll through the gift shop. The Warther known knives are available as well to purchase. The Warther generations to follow are eaqually talented. Have made several visits to this Museam and it is always a site to behold. You will never forget what you have experienced.

Our friends living in Dover OH took us to the Museum. Because they were local they knew a lot about the Warther Familiy. The things you can see, are all made by hand and ant it is also interesting to learn about history. Mister Warthers wife collected buttons and you can see a big variety of them. I got some Swiss knifes, from my friends. And it is good quality I use them every day.Outside kids can play in an old train and overall it's a great

If you saw one train carving from the collection you would be amazed! To see a multitude under one roof is awe inspiring! "Moonie" Warther was a genius, a master. If you are within 500 miles its worth the drive. You will never again see anything that compares with his mastery as a craver. My four grandsons, ages 5 - 14 where mesmerized. He also collected arrowheads and his wife buttons. Those displays are great. The homestead and his workshop are included in the modest tour price.

Mooney Warther was a carver of extraordinary, unbelievable intellect, skills and dedication to his art. The carvings are absolutely to scale and impressive beyond words. This was our second visit and I will go back again and spend a few more hours in the museum. The guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant with interesting stories of Mooney and his career. I suggest you couple your visit to Warther Museum with a visit to nearby David Warther Carvings a short distance away in Sugarcreek,Ohio. David is the grandson of Mooney and carves historical ships in ivory and ebony with skills comparable to his grandfather. A good two-stop trip in Amish country.

The carvings are quite amazing. The knives seem pretty cool. There are neat bits of history all over. The kids liked playing with the trains outside. But goodness, this place is odd. The video and guided tour about the life and dealings of Mooney Warther seemed like something out of a cult. I mean, the guy was clearly extraordinarily talented and made some nice altruistic life choices, but jeez-a-loo. For any of those familiar with the Moonies (the religious group), the parallel is too poetic to pass up.That said, I'm looking forward to using my new tomato knife.

My wife and I took our four children to this museum in 1999 and we’ve been excited to get back there ever since. If you look this up on the Internet, know that the website is terrible and doesn’t begin to do justice to what the museum has to offer. This museum houses the carvings of “Mooney” Warther which are absolutely incredible. Warther’s specialty was trains – carved to absolute perfection. Even if you have no interest in trains, these carvings from ebony wood and ivory are true works of art. Perhaps the most astounding carving is a “pliers tree.” The carving was made with one piece of wood in which he made 30,000 cuts (no shavings came off) with the result that all the “branches” of the trees become pliers with handles that open and close. Not until a decade ago did mathematicians figure out a formula to explain it. The museum shows several short videos on Warther’s life and they are definitely worth viewing. Teens love to see the special Commando knives Warther carved for the “boys” of Dover who went off to WWII. It’s a little weird getting into the parking lot but if you follow the signs posted you won’t have any problems.

Our visit to the Warther Museum was NOT planned. My wife and I were away on an overnight for our anniversary. When we were checking out of the B and B, the nice lady asked us where we were going. My response was the Dennison RR Museum. She told us that although the RR Museum was nice, we had to check out the Warther Museum. Since I had already been to the RR museum (a very nice visit, by the way), we thought that we would see something new.We were not disappointed. We live less than an hour from the museum and had never heard of the museum.Mooney Warther made knives as a profession. What you will see in the museum is his hobby - carving. Folks, these are word class carvings. Words cannot describe them.I can't remember what I paid to get in. It wasn't much. Let's put it this way: it had to be a good value for what I saw there or it would have stuck in my mind.I say this a lot, but I really mean this - This is a must see!

What a young 5-year old who found a pocket knife in the woods was able to do with NO TRAINING! The train carvings of ebony and ivory are exquisite, especially the one of Lincoln's Funeral with a carving of the President himself laid out in the casket as you peek through the window. Pictures made of intricately arranged buttons by Mrs. Carver are also on display in an adjacent building as well as the Warther homestead. Well worth the $5.00 admission!

Excellent tour guide with part of the tour by David Warther himself. Very interesting display of his carved ivory ships. The young lady who assisted him was very knowledgeable. It was great to watch him work and to be given the opportunity to ask questions of the artist made the tour even better. They have a wonderful gift shop as well.
