We saw Pirates of Penzance. It was immensely enjoyable. Sometimes, with "small town" theatre you take your chances on the quality; and we were prepared to be indulgent. But this performance was totally professional and competent. We will definitely return.
We were in Stowe overnight & saw that The Secret Garden was playing & decided to see it. It was a delightful show. The cast did a good job in portraying one of my favorite books in a musical way. The 10 year old, Mary had great stage presence & everyone seemed to be enjoying the presentation. With a minimal budget & minimal props it was well worth spending the evening enjoying an old time favorite.
We did the cultural thing and stopped by to catch the show. We were blown away at the professionalism of this production. It was incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we've been talking about it ever since.
If you are vacationing in Stowe and want to feel part of the community, the Theatre Guild puts on a quality production. The theatre is housed in the historic Town Hall Theatre right in the middle of downtown. The 10 year old currently playing the lead in The Secret Garden does a fantastic job and has a great future in theatre. Note that it is a community theatre in the fullest sense run by volunteers. While it does not have the history or budget of some professional summer theatres such as The Monomoy in Chatham, MA, it provides for an entertaining evening.
I was thrilled that a Broadway musical was playing while I was in town. Only $20 - comfortable seats - and so much talent on stage! If you are in Stowe - check out what is playing at the Stowe Theatre Guild!
This was my second time going to a play in this historical building. Very resonable price as well as the treats that were sold, Seats were comfortable too. Dress in comfortable & cool clothes because the room tends to get a little warm. BUT, Please don't let that discourage you because the plays are enjoyable,
Not Broadway, but if you like musicals, this is usually a fun way to spend a summer night. We've been going to their shows since our now grown kids were small.
We scored $10 tickets to the comedy musical [title of show] on opening night. It was a hilarious little play with great acting and singing. A treasure for a town the size of Stowe, VT. Seats were comfortable but it did get toasty in the room by the end of the 90-minute show. We were unaware of the adult humor and language and may have reconsidered taking our 13 y.o. granddaughter had we known. We had to do some "debriefing" afterward and some explaining to her parents. ;) A brief note in the advertisement would have been helpful.
A must do on a rainy day! So, if the movie is a bomb, you can drink away. Great people and wait staff.
We spend a few weeks at Smugglers Notch each summer, and when planning our vacation I like to check out what is playing at the local community theaters while we are there. After reading a review of this show we decided to go. We were glad we did, because it was hilarious! We had been to thistheater (in the top floor of the town hall) before, but I think this was my favorite show. Keep upthe good work STG!
While on vacation at nearby Smugglers Notch I saw opening night for Hair was being performed by the Theatre Guild in Stowe. Being a teenager in the 60"s I just had to roll back the clock and ordered tickets for opening night. The actors were college age to the 20's and did an excellent production of the Broadway hit. They intermingled with the audience before and after the play. As this was my first time attending theatre here and was very pleased I would definitely go back the next time I am visiting Stowe.
Pretty good show with beautiful score played by talented musicians. Vocal and acting abilities of cast average for community theater, but they needed work on harmonizing. Liked that we were able to preorder tickets since show was sold out, but would have appreciated being told we would have an obstructed view. We were right behind the band and couldn't see over or around the conducter since he was standing, so I could literally only see half the stage. Also, the lights he used to read the music were tilted up to high and shone right in our eyes. I "watched" most of the first act with my eyes closed but we moved to other seats of people who left during intermission. Iif he tilted the lights downward just a bit or moved 3' towards the windows the entire section behind could have seen better. Don't want to sound too critical; have been to other productions here and will definitely return, but will pay more attention to seat selection.
We travel to Stowe quite often and always try to attend one of the performances at the theater. We have seen so many plays there and never been disappointed. the best however was The sound of music. I guess being there just made it real. The actors are so porofessional. And the prices are so reasonable.
We come to Stowe almost every year and in the past few have discovered the gem at the Town Hall. We first attended Sound of Music 3 summers ago and were surprised at the quality of the talent and production. We look forward to attending each year. The tickets are reasonably priced and the small venue pretty much results in a great seat for every attendee. Definitely worth attending.
