This is our Sunday drive and such a nice scenic route on a warm clear day. We usually take our relatives on this drive when they come visit us.
Wow! The folks at the museum in town told us how to get to the old Route 66, as were trying to run as much of the old road as possible, We went all the way to Needles, CA. It did not disappoint. Gives you a really good feel for what it was like traveling the road in the old days.
We passed from Avi Resort through Fort Mohave, to Oatman, on our way to Kingman. We made a point of passing through this pass on the way. It is well worth it. Near the top is a pullout with terrific views. Crosses/memorials are just below where people have scattered ashes of loved ones.
Take it slow and stay on your side of this narrow, twisting mountain pass road and you will love the fantastic scenery around every corner. A few old, crumbling foundations of by-gone gas stations and tourist cabins will remind you this was once busy Route 66, the main east-west road beginning in the 1930s until a re-route was done years later. Stop at the turn-outs to enjoy the scenery, and be sure to stop at the top of the pass for wonderful views in all directions. If you're visiting Kingman, take a couple hours to enjoy this beautiful and adventuresome ride.
Sitgreave's is on Route 66 between Kingman and Oatman -- so if you go to Oatman, you're going here whether you want to or not! But - even if you don't go to Oatman (which would be a mistake) - the views are still worth the drive!
The road is a bit nerve-wracking for my agoraphobia, but the views were outstanding. Drive slow! There are some very sharp turns and no guard rails.
Take your time, it's well worth the drive. Make sure to look for the old cars off the road near the hairpin curve.
we drove this route in a 1957 Chevy Bel Air and it was a thrilling experience. The road is amazing with so many twists and turns, which we absolutely loved.
The pass is after a fun filled ride of twists and turns between Cold Spring and Oatman. Closer to the wild donkey mining town of Oatman.. It is a beautiful perch off the side of the road looking towards mountain claims and beautiful full sunsets .
If you want to see the inspiration for Radiator Springs in the Disney Cars movie, then you should take the Oatman road (Route 66) from Kingman to Oatman, AZ. Site graves Pass in particular is a great place to watch the sunrise.
Difficult to comprehend this was a major highway some years ago. Plenty of space to pull off and appreciate the view. Being local, this is place I enjoy bringing visitors and then continue on to Oatman.
A worthwhile stop when traveling Historic Rt. 66. The road is a bit challanging but gives a feel for what the travelers of the 50's and 60's endured.
Somewhat of a rough road driving from Kingman to Oatman but, well worth the views and experience. There is a sign marking the pass but no place to stop and take a photo.
Great view on Route 66. Stopped on our tour of Route 66 in Arizona. Had a great time, wonderful stops along the way.
Great views from the pass.If you are a nervous driver (or passenger) this road may not be for you?The road is narrow, sheer drops and little in the way of barriers.....you have been warned.Once up in the Black Hill the route to Oatman over the pass is about 6 miles.....the return trip is easier as you are on the inside of the bends away from the drops.Go do it!
